Technical Question

Just wondering if there is anyone out there who coud advise me on posting an avatar. I've tried posting actual pic's a number of times, but they all seem to be to large. Way to much data/ pixels. I've seen what seem to be nice pictures used as avatars and was just wondering if you use some kind of compression software, or just scan a pic at a much lower ppi.

If you have image-handling software such as Photoshop you can save it as a .jpeg and reduce its quality. This will reduce its size in bytes. If you aim for 17 kb you should have no problem posting it.
Alternatively, attach the image to your post and one of us will reduce it for you.

Thanks Daddy B. I don't have PhotoShop, but I'll see what I can do with more primative software I do have.

You could try reducing the 'Image Size' with your software (this type of option is usually found under 'Edit').
You may be able to see the new amount of kilobytes as you reduce it.

I too am having problems....just doing a quick test run...don't think it's going to work.

Avatar looks just fine to me...

Well, looks like it worked...but, this was as small as I could get the picture. I am going to try to find another picture and see if I can get it where it's just not my face only!

You should even be able to do it (trial and error wise) in Windows Paint.

Leave your "face only " up for a while, though, it's rather nice...

So nice to hear, Daddy B! Much appreciated! I already switched my picture, though! Thanks to all for the help! I finally, finally, finally figured it out!! Quite a big deal for someone who is not too computer savvy!
