I've only heard of it and seen it in a glass...don't think it applies to a shot. We watched a show on the Fine Living Channel called The Thirsty Traveler and the host Kevin showed how it is made and even how to cook with it...pretty cool show.

Usually it is served in a thin, long shot glass. The coffe beans - regardless of number thereof - are used as flavouring; you float the beans and you set the Sambucca alight so the flavour is released. It's more or less the reverse to another Continental European (Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese...) custom, that of having a whiff of liquor in your single espresso.
