What do you pay for runners?
I'm wondering what most people pay for running shoes. Wierd question, I know.
See, I usually just buy some crappy pair of $30 runners and call it a day. DOn't think I've ever had an expensive pair. But I'm a big Imelda Marcos-type, and I have a huge shoe closet, so always wanted to save money for my OTHER shoes... Well, now I've got RA and this problem with a bone spur on my heel, so I thought it was prudent to go buy myself a good pair of runners since I was going to be starting to do a lot of walking, both outside and on the cross-training machine. So I went to the runners-store, and tried on a few pairs, staying away from the most expensive pair in the store...until the guy sucked me into trying them on...all I can say is OH MY!....and I bought them. They are Nike Air Shocks...and they work just perfect actually, because they have these five air shocks that circle around the heal and provide the weight to be taken right off my heel where the bone spur is, working even better than the orthotics. SO a wise investment, I guess.Price tag? $190.00!!!!! So my question: is that a lot? Or am I just so out of the game that I don't know what a real pair of runners should cost? I did NOT feel good about paying that much for them, until I walked around in them all day today and felt so good... ![]() |

The shoes do look comfortable. I have seen them online for $116-$130 USD. The $190 must be Canadian....
I hate spending a lot of money on shoes- any kind of shoes. So for me, $50 is great for a pair of running shoes. But if I had feet issues, I would spend more money. Heck maybe spending less on shoes will cause feet problems!! |

It's a bit much ... but you hit the nail on the head. If this is what it's going to take to get you up and walking comfortably, then they will prove to be a great value.
Do yourself a favor, though: save all the sizing and model information and shop for them on the web when they wear out. Maybe you can get a better price deal on the web. |

Hey, Ginger them are pretty stylin'
I have a fundamental issue with paying more than 60 to 80 bucks for a pair of runners. I worked sport retail in college and the cost of runners then was half of what the msrp was. We used to order direct from the Nike rep. They always wanted the staff to be wearing their shoes. It worked out pretty well Those Air shocks were given.... that's right GIVEN to the volunteers at a Nike hockey skills camp here last fall. Those and a T-shirt and shorts made from their super-spiffy-ultra-stretchy-moisture-wicking-show-every-ripple-on-your-bodyhigh tech fabric. I heard that there was a fella there that tipped the old Toledos at about 270. It was a picture to behold. Some clothing shoud have a max GVW stated on it! If they what it takes to keep you smiling, why not? I'd settle for a cheaper, still good-looking pair, but that's me. Go for it! ![]() |
