Laser eye surgery complete.........
Had it done Wednesday. Went in tuesday for my pre-op, my correction was on the low end of the price scale, $2,500 Cdn complete, I was pleased about that.
My Optometrist recommended this place here in Vancouver, he had his eyes doen there too. Turns out this place has had over 100 other Optometrists get the corrective laser surgery done there, I didn't think I really needed to shop around after that. Not for price, but reputation. Less than 5 minutes an eye, and no video or explanation can get you prepared for this kind of surgery, I wish I was knocked out for it. Nothing hurt, but feeling the doctor cut my eye open was something I really didn't need to feel. Anyways, first day, didn't do much, just sat in the dark with these huge monster tinted goggles, much more comfortable than they look, even for sleeping. Right eye was irritated the whole day, went back to the clinic to see if there was some debris in there, nope, it was just the right eye wasn't having an easy of a time as the left, which felt no pain or discomfort at all. Second day, 90% of all right eye irritation gone, drove some, no more pain killers. Clinic verified I was up to 20/20 vision already, and the "haze" and sensitivity to light will dissappear over the next few weeks. My vision was slightly better than 20/20 before, and should return to the same level as clarity is restored. I never knew not being able to wash my face the old standard way would be so annoying, as is not being able to touch around the eyes too. The anti-biotic, steriod, and moisturizer drops are hanging from my eye-lashes, lids, and rolling down my face, looks just GROSS. Third day, enjoying a beer, 99% all discomfort gone, vison better/clearer, all going well. No more need for anti-biotic drops, the steriod drops will be used for another 5 days. I do have to use this thick, goopy moisturizing drop, it's like dropping syrup in your eye, gobs everywhere. this will continue on for a week. After a week, all I'll need are the "Natural Tears" drops. In 3 months, all activities will resume as usual, I'm so glad I spent the cash to get it done. It's so wierd, I keep thinking I need my glasses or contacts, but they're just sitting there, and I can still see!!! The surgery actually cost $5,000. Since I spent $2,500 on myself, it's only fair Julie gets $2,500 in shopping over the week we're down here. I'm sure glad I did it, and those interested in it in western Canada, PM me for the clinic ( I didn't want to do an on-line "promo" in the post.) WOO HOO, NO MORE GLASSES OR CONTACTS!!! SWIMMING WITHOUT GOGGLES WILL......... BE POSSIBLE!!!!!!

Had mine done 7 years ago...you'll be SOOOO glad you did this. I still have to use eye drops to moisturize my eyes though (not the thick goopy stuff) otherwise my vision starts to get crappy cause my eyes are drying out. Weird.

I accepted my beat-red eyes and stopped the drops all together. Sucked for about a month, but my eyes eventually started producing enough moisture on their own again. Might be the same thing, your eyes are dependant on the drops. Might be worth trying without drop for a while to get your own tears ducts working again, for all I know not being a doc anyway. |

My step dad also had his done, worked like a charm. My dad on the other hand, his vision is so bad I am not sure it would help...and being that he's a lawyer, he won't do it because if they screw up or f8*k up as he says, then he can't do his job.

$9,000 Cdn invested so far, his current glasses were no heavier than mine I wore, and the doc figured another 3 visits he shouldn't need glasses all together. He was legally blind, and very lucky his physician gave him a chance to correct his vision before pulling his driver's liscence. PM me if youi like, your dad can always just go for just a consultation, no strings attached. |

On the topic above- people with really bad vision getting LASIK and the like- there are in fact limitations......if someones vision is really bad there are greater chances that lasering won't help or that the result won't be as promised. Good that the above mentioned patient found help- but also always keep in mind (like in Mofis dads case....) that if the dioptr. are too high there is a greater risk as well. Being very informed before having LASIK and the like done is always a must in any case......unfortunately we have many folks here in Germany f.e. who will travel to Turkey to have it done there as it is cheaper- and the docs there will just do it for the money sometimes regardless of the risks- and come back with vision worse than before. |

When I had mine done (7 yrs ago) they told me that I might still need reading glasses as I aged. My nearsightedness was corrected but it would have nothing to do with aging and needing assistance with reading or close work. I still have excellent near vision so I must be somewhat blessed.

I didn't need reading glasses when I first had it done - ended up with monovision which was just fine for everything. After the enhancements I do need reading glasses now for the newspaper and some books but it all seems to depend a lot on the amount of light. Dim lighting is a killer.
