A friend of mine and I bought a small lot of land in the Pueblo Sacbe eco-village that's being gradually developed.
I am going to move over to the PuebloSacbe thread and encourage Dave and Denisea and others to follow me over there and maybe we can activate that place and get some discussion going there.
Hi Dave and Denisea,

Tom gave Kathy and I a tour when we were down in early May. We are interested enough to return in December, in part to further check out Sacbe. I have been in communication with one other owner here in Portland, a man we met while down there in May.

Dave, you wrote that you bought a lot with another couple. Are you planning to use it primarily as vacation property? Have you been back down since you purchased it?

There seems to be some potential for small businesses at Pueblo Sacbe. There are, I believe, somewhere around 500 lots available. With enough permanent residents at some future date, small stores, eateries, etc....seem like they might be viable.

Tom said they were planning a healh center that would have retreats and workshops and that folks coming in for those could really use bed and breakfast places on site.

Another thing that intrigued me was the mention that co-housing would be an allowable use. This is something that I have been interested in for some time. I don't know if any of the readers are familiar with it, but the short version is that a group of people form a organization and, in addition to building their own living space, there are common spaces (community kitchen, laundry, library, guest quarters and equipment. What this can mean is that instead of everyone have guest facilities in their home, guests are able to use the community guest quarters.

It can reduce the amount of equipment needed. Ten families may be able to get along fine with 4 washing machines instead of the standard one in each house. It is enviromentally more friendly and also an excellent way to create community.

Well, that is enough for now. It would delight me if some discussion could get going around these and other issues; if owners would post about their experiences here, if the developers would write about their visions, dreams etc....
