My disconnect is not totally about place, however, I have always had an odd sense of place that speaks to me. Drives Keith nuts. I believe that this sense of place is actually the impact of the culmination of many forces including the energy of the people that reside in that space (be it past, present or future). So the people factor for me plays a critical role as well.
I also long for community, however, not at the expense of my personal autonomy. Any relationship, be it community, family, friendship, requires some sort of relinquishment of autonomy on everyone's part. The key to a successful relationship is striking the proper balance. Something not so easily achieved. But sharing similar values and goals sets a strong foundation for building such a relationship.
