buying land at pueblo sacbe
You asked about the process of buying land. I won't get into the legal details, but the process was extremely simple. Tom and Joanne at Pueblo Sacbe, had their lawyer draw up the contracts (with a translated version for us). Sent to documents to us in Canada. We signed and returned and on our next visit, they took us to the lawyer's office (actually a notary republic I believe, which in Mexico carries greater weight) and we reviewed all the documentation. I think we paid a small fee to the notary republic who acted as guarantor the the process and the documentation was kosher.
As I understand it, the process then goes into the Mexican land title system and the formulation of the condo association. We'll have full title to the land once the process is completed in a few months. We'll probably put the land under a company name, allowing us the ability to rent and generate income and have easier visa rights for long stays.
It was almost a year ago now and the details are not on the top of my mind, but it was very easy and hassle free. Tom, Joanne and Ted Rhodes basically took care of all the paperwork. We had complete faith in them, especially as Joanne is a member of my friend and co-owner's family.
On the pueblo sacbe website are details about all the legalities of owning land in Mexico.
