Occidental Flamenco vs XCaret

We have two choices to book...either dominican republic at the Occidental Xcaret or the Occidental Flamenco....which is the better of the two?

We've are going to Occidental Gran Flamenco Xcaret in 29 days (but who's counting?). We have been, among other places, to both PDC and the DR. To paraphrase Dorothy Parker, about the DR, "there is no there there!". Whether you go to Puerta Plata or Punta Cana, you are barricaded in the resorts (and Puerta Plata is to be avoided); you won't believe the fun you'll have at PDC! Not to mention safe!

When I was booking this last trip I asked the travel agent about other places. She highly recommened the DR but stressed that even with a group of 10 people, you DO NOT leave the resort. She said the beaches are the most amazing beaches and the resorts are beautiful. But if you want to explore or leave the are you are not allowed too. Playa is so fun and the night life is great too, no matter where you choose to go.

Besides, the two resorts are probably going to be just about the same. So, in my opinion, it would be better to go somewhere that you have more choices of things to do.
