comparison to lindo??

Going away in May and would prefer to stay at the Lindo, but wondering if anyone could give me a few other hotels that are equilavent to the lindo. Also some people we are going with would like no open air when they were having their breakfast or supper.

I am definitely a Lindo Lover!

We had originally planned to spend New Years in Cancun at Dreams with our two older kids who wanted to stay in Cancun. Hurricane Wilma made us change our hotel plans due to so much damage in Cancun.

We decided on Barcelo Maya Beach on a recommendation. We were a little unhappy at first on the Beach side with the food and our room really needed a good cleaning. We upgraded after two nights to the new side which is the Colonial and were quite happy. The Tropical side should be opening any day and is a mirror image of the Colonial.

Here are a couple of differences between Barcelo Maya Colonial and Lindo.

The beach was bigger at Barcelo - tons of chairs - they had less shade at Barcelo due to the damage to the palm trees, and they have no palapas.

Rooms were equal

Service was more polished at Lindo

Food was better at Lindo

No coupon system for dinner at Lindo - you can eat everynight at a special restaurant at Lindo as long as you can get a reservation time. One thing that bothered me at the buffets at the Barcelo was that when you entered the dining room you have to find a clean table by yourself. You can end up circling the dining room searching for a table only to find someone's bag on the chair. Lindo seats you at a clean table when you enter, makes life easier.
If your friends want to eat in the outdoor buffets at Barcelo, you can either eat lunch by the beach as they have a nice restaurant on the Colonial side or you can use the outdoor buffet on the Beach/Caribe side.

These are small issues, I won't even call them complaints, we liked Barcelo Colonial very much, I would return there as a second choice to Lindo.

We found the the Secrets Excellence to be fantastic. The food was great, the service was wonderful, the rooms were beautiful. We had a swim out room with a hammock. We loved being able to just walk out in to our "backyard" and be at the pool and have people serve us drinks there. The only down side is that the water does have sea grass. There were still people swimming, but I know that this bother some. Good luck with your decision.
