Chichen Itza Tours

Well peeps, as my time draws near, I came to the realization that I have not asked this question .

Who do you recommend that we patronize for a tour of Chitza Itza ? We did not the have the opportunity out last trip because I took a scuba tank in the chest from about 4 feet and it made it difficult to breathe or walk a great distance for the rest of my trip .

That being said , if I don't get injured somehow on a trip , then the planets must be out of alignment .

THe better half is hell bent on doing this tour and I would like to see it also .

Your thoughts ?

Brent

Thought of that too, Tappy. Unfortunately he'll be there about 4 weeks too early.

We're possibly going to go to Valladolid which is the town near Chichen Itza for a night in order to go there bright and early in the morning and try to avoid the crowds. I've read many good things about doing it in this manner.

This is the best option so far if you have the time and the car. Early morning in CI gets away from the crowds and heat. It also gives you the time to see Ek Balam. If you like CI then you will love Ek Balam.

Another option for a one day trip is to fly from PDC to CI with www.aerosaab.com. Expensive, but they will have you back in PDC in the early afternoon. The last time I checked they were about $250-300 pp for the tour.

I've read the best is to take a bus to Valladolid and in the morning there's an early bus to Chichen Itza from town.

We took the Playa.info tour in Nov. and it was great and very stress free. We arrived early, before the crowds. I was able to take a picture of the main pyramid with no one climbing it! Mitch hired a local guide at the ruins. The experience can be interesting on your own, but having a guide adds a lot. We were done and headed to a really groovy cenote to cool off as the crush of tour buses was arriving. Lunch in downtown Valladolid was very good, too. We had a chance to sample lots of local specialties. We had time to stop at the prison for hammocks on the way home. If you want a day trip, this is the way to go!!

I must be missing something - is there somewhere on this board that has more specific and current details regarding the Chichen Itza/Valladoid tour other than the "post" here on this thread with info from back in September??

I would like to know the cost and on the home page under tours I do not see anything listed for this particular tour yet it is on the tour booking calender for March which is when we will be in PDC.

We also took the Playa Info tour and it was exactly as Mave described. I can't recommend it enough!

We are still building the tour pages for both the Ek Balam and the Chichen Itza tours, but the itineraries are listed under "playa.info's one of a kind tours" sticky thread on this forum. I can also send you an itinerary via email if you would prefer that, just send me a pm and let me know what itinerary you want.

I think you would have more fun with the PlayaInfo tour.

We went with some company that we just booked with on the street. The price was right ($35 US each) but the guide didn't talk much and we arrived at the same time as all the buses. (we DID get to go in a van at least, not a bus, but still...)

I think the PlayaInfo tour would be more fun and more personal.
