COSTA del MAR comments anyone?

My husband and I are booked in the Costa del Mar for a week the end of March. I know it is right next to the ****** that recently had a fire.
Any comments positive or negative on this hotel?
We are looking for a basic hotel with a great beach...
I hope this is it.

Hi there! We were there when this fire happened. We were in the hotel next door to the Costa del Mar to the south - the El Colibri. We had to run from the hotel 'cause one of the balconies was on fire. Anyway, as of Sunday am, the Costa del Mar was closed because a lot of rooms were wrecked, but I'd bet by the end of March they'll have things back to normal. However, may I suggest the El Colibri? I didn't see inside the Costa del Mar's rooms, but from the outside I'd say we had nicer ones at the Colibri - it's budget, but clean, with nice balconies - beachfront - great staff - hammocks. We paid $80 US/night but had to pay in cash and stay at least 7 days. A heck of a deal (and very little damage from the fire - already looks good as new).

But wouldn't hurt to take a plug in smoke detector if they keep doing fire dancing in heavy winds...................

OK, I'm sure it is on the forum somewhere but I'm short of time. I'm do in PDC Feb 1. and booked at Costa del Mar. Should I be looking for a new room? If so I need on for 3 nights. Steve do you have anything open at Playa Maya?

hi osut227
we are booked there march 27-april 1st. you'll have to give me an update from your stay there this week. Good Luck.
From what I have heard is that most of the damage was to the BP and only the bar from the Costa del mar, but my info is sketchy at best. reports say that the BP is now rebuilding and guys were working there this weekend. Info from those at the Colibri next door said the Costa del mar rooms were okay but the cabanas had some damage.
Would love to hear from you upon your return!
we decided if the rooms smell of smoke we'll just have to have a shot of tequila before bed.
good luck
