Taking a Taxi to Wal Mart and Back

We will be in Playa in May staying at a condo in the area of 5th and 26th. Wondering how long of a cab ride to pick up a few things and if the cab will wait for us while we shop or return to get us? Any help would be great.

Please don't have the cab wait, simply get into a fresh one. There is a long line of cabs waiting at Wal-Mart you'll confuse everyone if you try to do something different.

Just walk there if its just a few things you're picking up since you are pretty close to the Walmart. We walked from Casa De Gopola on Ave 10 and Calle 2(I think) with each of us carrying a crapload of alcohol.

Since they have a specific cab system in the parking area, you pay a little more. Rather than the normal 14 pesos from this area to your hotel, it will be 19 pesos. Must more if you have them wait!

We haven't been there since the new Walmart, but my experience is....start walking down the main road (30th in this case) with your groceries... a passing cabbie will likely pull along side of you and make sure you don't want a ride with all of that stuff... and will probably offer a better price than in the parking lot.

I am in the bar business and have been wondering just how much is "a crapload of alcohol"? Like we say in the bar business, "you have never being "that" drunk until you sh*t your pants"! Now that is a crapload of alcohol!

5 peso difference, so up to you! Taxis are always waiting in a line (they actually have an organized system) in the under ground parking lot (which is right where you exit the store).

Ahhh... you're probably right... it's our experience from when we've decided to walk, not when we've decided to be cheap. When we do decide we're going to take a taxi, we'll pay a reasonable rate.

Ha! I take the cheap route often, but if you're full of bags it's just so easy to get in right there (rather than walk up the ramp, out the parking lot, and start down the stree)! Either way, there are lots of taxis on 25th as well as 30th. Wal-mart is right by the town center/Municiple Building on the 25th side. Take your pick! If I'm not overloaded with bags, I walk the whole way home. Talk about cheap (I do it for the walk too)!

Well they'd probably be a lot more walking (read cheaping out) if we lived there! But even if you're on a budget vacation, less than $2 for a taxi ride is certainly in the "why would we schlep bags, we're on vacation!" category. I haven't taxied in quite a few years, but I think it's about $5 just to get them to drop the flag up here.

The taxis at WalMart are sitio taxis, which means they apply a surcharge. If you catch one on the street, there is no surcharge. It is not a negotiation, but it is cheaper.

The rates may be fixed, but the taxi drivers do not abide by them. Went to Chedraui three times last summer & was given a different price each time, from the same pick-up point. Rates going home were not the same either. Each cab
driver gave me a different "offering"!!

Some are'nt so good at deciding what zone they're in.

14 pesos covers most journeys in the centre unless you're going to Playacar, Sams Club or using a sitio. I believe the rates are published on this site if you have a nose around.
