Have to agree with CdnNascarGirl on this resort.
This is maybe a 3 star and not much more. We found the staff a bit arogant and not very helpful. The PDC area is very beautifull and people there are great. We will be going back but NOT to Viva Wyndham Maya. |

I respect everyone's opinion,,,,but I think the viva maya is great. I have been to several other resorts, and keep going back to the maya. This fall while it was closed we had to book at the Iberostar/Quetzal. It was very nice, but I am going back to the Viva Maya this spring.

Sorry this is kind of late. The Quetzal is definately more upscale and luxurious. Top shelf liquor at all bars, not just the lobby bar, and they will make a mohito at all bars. Speaking of bars, the Quetzal has a pretty cool pool bar, but it is off away from the main pool. Kind of set back and out of the way. And the food was good. But the Quetzal is huge. I think what I like about the Viva Maya is that it is more compact. I always seem to meet more people there and always have a great time. You are more likely to get drawn in to the activities and get to meet other guests. It is also more layed back than some of the other places, which I think translates into more fun. Also, the food at the Viva Maya is really good, and and they offer a good selection. And the staff is always great. I think I have grown partial to the Viva because I have been there many times, and I know a few staff members there. I guess looking at it objectively, the Quetzal is a better place. But there is something about the Viva Maya that keeps me going back. |

Met Slayer and wife last Sept at IBQ and I would give VM a try just from his review/opinion.
Slayer, Hope you guys have great time at the Viva Maya. I wish we were going to be able to go and meet up with yall. The Quetzal was great, but I am willing to try other places. I hope we can go back to IBQ this fall for our 25th wed Anniversary. We will go somewhere, I hope Playa. Stan |

I stayed at Viva Maya last summer '05 before the hurricane. I loved it. I went to a Viva resort in the Dominican Republic the year before. In the DR they treated us like royalty because we were By Request members at Viva Maya we got a balloon a few beers in the room and a tiny bottle of almonds. In the DR it was a bottle of rum, bottle of wine, ice bucket of beer, meat and cheese tray and a fruit tray. HUGE difference. We are going back to the DR this summer to a different Viva resort so it'll be interesting to see if the difference is that the Mexican Riviera is maybe more popular so they don't have to offer so much ammenities? Don't know. I know I love the ocean and snorkeling as much in the DR...but miss the Mexican culture and people.
