In the meantime: for those of you planning a visit to the Playa Tucan Beach/Culture Club, we spent a very enjoyable day there just two days ago. No sign of impending demolition, though the place is clearly showing its age.

Everything new in playa is going "Trendy". Blue parrots, hotel deseo, hotel basico, many many restaurants. In my opinion its only gonna make playa better. Nikki Beach would fit perfectly in playa. Would it really be that bad to be like St Tropez?? st trop is a quaint town with lots of charm, great beaches, great restaurants and good(not insane or overbearing)nightlife. just my thoughts.

Makes me wonder what kind of cover art we'd see on Oakenfold's first Playa mix release: would they go with the focus more on the Deseo/Básico design thing

or on a kind of nightlife activity thing?

So they start tearing down Tucan today? The hotel we are staying at uses Tucan as their beach club - appartently not anymore.

Oh well, I guess we will have to find somewhere else to go.

Just received an e-mail from the Villa Amanecer (where we are staying next week) confirming that Tucan Beach Club is now shut down. They said they would be providing us with coupons for Mamita's instead.

I would have to believe that Mamita's is going to be VERY crowded they next couple of months!

You guys could always just avoid that problem entirely by staying at one of Playa's many fine beachfront establishments, you know.

You could be 'Nikki beach' competition by hiring Nikki Cox 2 serve drinks on the beach in front of PM!!

Too late to change our reservations - but we will defintely be hanging out at Playa Maya at least one day. I think that we also will try Bumper's recommended "Playa Parasio Beach Club" in Tulum for a chill day.

One thing for sure, we will not suffer -

I've heard that Playa Tukan will still have chairs and umbrellas for rent during the remodeling, but I have still to see it with my own eyes. If I ever get to go to the beach...

Fresh from the horse's mouth: building work hasn't started yet, best forecasts point to the week starting 20th February, if that.
Meanwhile, all systems at Clube Tukan are go.

We just returned home less than a week ago and spent just about everyday at Tukan . One of the waiters said that it had been sold and it would be going upscale.

$70 pesos a beer . Whats next ? I guess that healthy discount with the Playadeal Card will amount to a greater amount. Maybe Mamitas will end up on the card instead.

"Upscale?"

$7/beer?

My advice to them is "Go for it." Knock yourselves out.

In Playa?

Please...
