Boy, am I dumb!
Just returned from Playadise where I did something I've never done before. I took a taxi to a destination without confirming the fare in advance. We decided to try Dona Marie (Mary?). Grabbed a cab at Calle 10 and La Quinta.
Got there and the driver said 50 pesos. OK, OK, I'd had a couple of Margaritas at Babe's (gotta blame something). I gave him the 50, but, boy, did I get even, I didn't tip him!! I think it shoulda been a buck fifty for the fare. Oh well! To further get even, we walked back. Maybe 5 minutes. Geez! Dona Marie is great basic, good food. Check other threads for address. No English spoken. So we just tried a little of everything. Also, no alcohol. Further rant, then I'll quit. We were in several shops in Playa where they were playing Mexican rap or hiphop (music?) at rather high levels. My informal survey showed that not one of my fellow shoppers gave a rats patoot about that noise. It drove me out of 3 stores. I don't pay to hear noise that exactly matches the loud pounding going on in my head. (Babe's Margaritas, again). Open note to kids clerking in the stores - look around - those gray-haired people from Minnesota, Canada and Michigan will stay away in droves if you drive them out with that noise. Ok, I'll stop now. We had another fabulous week in Playa. Trip report later. We are constantly amazed by the people of Playa's energy, resourcefulness and the ability to make us feel welcome every where in Playa. To have recovered from the hurricane so quickly is a miracle. God bless everybody in Playa. (except that stinkin' cabbie) |
