HELP PLAN OUR TRIP

Trying to plan trip right after xmas. Will water be cold or warm? Should we wait til a different season? Want to take tube cruise via underground riverways..xcaret.xelha and want to insure water is comfortable for us and kids. Is weather variable i.e. rainy season etc.? Want to tour ruins at leisure but husband doesn't feel we should drive. Customize tour with guide-any recommendations. Youngest is 7 and wants to fish-a 1/2 day charter? All inclusives versus opting for local favorites or dining? Must you be equally careful of water sources at either? If we go to cenotes in rain forests, should we have malaria shots etc.

Hi, Melusine.

I suggest you read the "Weather and Wear" section of this website for info on weather. It's in the Practical Info section under Read More at the top of this page. The Read More section has a lot of good info on Cenotes and Ruins as well. Try it, you'll like it!

Also, the search feature of this forum can help you find information on your other questions. Just do a search for "Xel Ha" or "Guided Tours" and you'll usually find a lot.

I will mention that when we were down there a few weeks ago, we rented a car for three days and drove everywhere. I don't feel it's much different or more dangerous than driving here in Chicago. Driving in Playa del Carmen itself can be a bit stressful at times, because the signage is not so hot. If you're comfortable driving in traffic, I wouldn't hesitate to rent a car. It gives you complete freedom to do what you want, when you want.

Try to search the forum a bit. If you can't find some things, come back to this post and ask.

Enjoy!

Vince

your trip

I loved the all inclusive trip to club maya. they had a bus that took you
to xcaret and the ruins.

At xcaret we did the underground river snorkelling. Make reservations
to play with the dolphins or you won't get in there.

Food at resort was fine except the coffee was awful.

I got sick when I got a drink, intown away from the resort, I imagine from
the ice.

Didn't need shots. From Viva Maya the taxi was about 2 us dollars into
town. Have fun and relax. That's the best part of all inclusive resorts.

Good luck
