Yeah amazing how a trip involving beautiful beaches full of nearly naked women and lots of cold beer can contribute so totally to father/son bonding. I had a trip to Pensacola with my son when he was 15 (and he had to drive a bunch of drunks home from a bar one night, a trip to New Orleans when he was 17 (if you don't ask and don't tell, a 17 year old can get a jello shot from a large breasted waitress), a trip to Playa when he was 22, whereupon I soon grew weary of the frequently repeated question from young women, "Where's your son?". This last fall he and I went to visit my daughter in Barcelona, and then spent 3 days on another "Dad and lad" trip to the island of Ibiza, home of topless beaches and the world's largest Disco! But you have already mentioned the one other necessary ingredient for these trips to happen - a wife who says "go for it" and is neither jealous nor threatened by it. I, too, am fortunate to share my life with such a woman. And now she is even fully supportive of my upcoming solo trip to Tulum and PDC (son working new job). So keep the trip report coming, and let's raise a cold glass to good wives! Cheers, Doc

I'll raise my glass to that! My wife and I honeymooned in Ibiza many years ago...I'm sure its changed a lot since then, but it was a great place! Spent some good times in Sitges too, south of Barcelona.....

Great trip report...keep it coming!

note to self: Bonding trips with son when he is old enough = drinking trips

AAAWWWW.....That's so sweet... As a wife, I appreciate a comment like that. Seriously, my son is only a toddler, but I can see this type of father/son bonding in our future. Especially involving beer.

Woke up Thusday morning, got showered, kicked the kid out of bed so we could get some breakfast. While he got ready I strolled around a bit to see things with clear eyes and try to plan our day before the Peep Meet later at the Beer Bucket. He finally rolled out and we headed to the Hot Baking Co..Another fine eating place. After we fueled up we took off down 5th to look around and ended up at the ferry dock where I found and bought several shirts and a cap to help support the Bomberos.

We bought a few things to take home and by that time we were hungry again so we found Dr. Taco and had a lunch of shrimp and pollo tacos. Folks, we had different foods at different places during our stay but this is a place we went back to. Great food ,cold beer, and great atmosphere.

Time for the beach, Austin thought he may need to buy some sunglasses before we got there.. You know, the bright sun and all..Got to Mamitas found a spot in the middle of it all, ordered 4 beers and kicked back. They were playing some good tunes and we pretty much just enjoyed the afternoon. We did talk a little about life, goals, were he wanted to be in 5 years and where the hell was he at all night (stumbled in about 4am). He told that he as laying his mack down and spittin his game I later had this explained to me buy one of lovely bartenders at the Bucket. It was getting late so we headed back to Luna Blue to get ready for P.M..Note...after drinking mass quantities of XX's,being wet from swiming, one must remember to wipe the sand off ones feet before putting on tight flip flops. I think I made it about half way up the road when I felt a little stinging in my right foot. My flip flop had rubbed a 1" strip of meat off the top of my foot. No blood, no problem...sand is very good at clotting blood flow)Hell, by this time I could here Jimmy Buffet singing and smelled the shrimp begining to boil

We got cleaned up, found the first aid kit my lovely wife made me take, got patched up and headed into town.I think we ate at Pez Vila, good food as I recall.
We made to the Beer Bucket and there were already a few folks for the Peep Meet..Fun was had by all.Matt K.and his wife, Tashi and husband, the bluegrass couple,Lem,Traci Lynn, Murry from Canada, a Couple from Sweden, and I know I'm forgetting some folk, sorry We got to know Andrea and Carmen (bartenders) drank several different beers. I think we started with Pacifico, ran out, Leon, ran out, Superior, and others that escape me at the moment. I forgot to mention that I was sportin my Nerak bling proudly.. Thanks Karen...
Sometime during the night I ordered a Mojito and was informed by Andrea that there was no mint. No mint, no Mojito..Damn, she offered a replacement which I know I will butcher but what the hell. I think it was a capriana or supin like that..Excellent, I'll have another. I,(we) met a very nice lady who claimed she was a psychic and proceded to tell us all the things a father wants to hear, you know...overbearing,hardass, expects too much, Austin was loving it and I........well I'll have a shot of centenario, that fixes stuff like that By the way, Gabriella, (the psycho, I mean psychic) is also looking for investors for her farm on Isla Holbox. I may have passed up on a gold mine...

For you first timers to the Bucket..beware the tall assed bar stools, nuff said. The night wore on, we got saved by Andrea and Carmen and some other fine looking yopung ladys who gave Austin a drink, called brain damage and they invited us (him) to a club for late night fun. Oh, we did have the pleasure of meeting Ron and his dog both, and spent some quality time talking about the midwest, him from Chicago and us from St.Louis.Super nice guy....
I don't know what time it was when we left cause I did not bring a time piece on vacation but it was late early kind of thing. I thought it was time to leave and Austin was surrounded by girls and thought not. Andrea then explained the spittin his game thing to me Oooohhhhh, that what he is doing... I think I left and he was still spittin something. It was a need know thing and I'm sure I did not need to know...Rambling here so I'll cut off.,I made it back to the room after taking my shoes off (another chunk of meat gone) showered, had a nite cap and was getting ready to crash when the kid got back.Said he was going to rest for a while then meet everyone somewhere at 4am..Hw was still in the same spot when I woke up at 8:30..Today is the day, my son's 22 birthday.
to be continued

Hmm... unfortunately I don't get it. What is this "spitting game" all about? I'm not a native speaker and thefore might not have been able to catch all the hints between the lines. Would you be kind enough to get a bit more explicit?

Great report! I can see why your son was surrounded by the ladies!

Sounds like you tied one on and had a good time. Hope I can stagger back to Luna Blue as well as you did!!

Or she's thinking what SHE was doing while the boys weren't at home.
