My first haircut in Playa...the trauma of it all

I think only chicas will understand this, but today, after agonizing for months, I finally got my hair cut in Mexico. For the last 28 years Sharon in Concord, California has cut my hair (don't do the math, please, lets just pretend I was REALLY young when I met her). Nobody else, just her. So, when I moved to Mexico, I put off getting my hair cut as long as possible. Lets face it, I was afraid. VERY afraid. I finally couldn't put it off any longer. I had to do something to my hair. I was a day or two away from dreadlocks. I was almost ready yesterday, but I chickened out. Today Tony asked if I wanted him to go with me. I was embarassed, but I said yes. We headed out to Bleu on 10th Avenue, a couple of blocks north of Constituyentes, near the hotel. Wendy, age 26 (yes, Wendy wasn't even born yet when Sharon started cutting my hair), just happened to be available. I asked how long she had been cutting hair & explained how nervous I was and why. She put her hands on my head and said, "relax." I watched every move she made, and when she started to make little snippy movements in the middle of a strand, I freaked just a little. She said don't worry, it will look good. Tony held my hand.

When it was over, she was right. It looked great. The kind of haircut a young person gives. (No offense, Sharon.) Tony loves it, and so do I. I feel a little guilty liking it so much (sorry, Sharon), but relieved as hell that I don't look as bad as I feared. Whew. Tony thinks I'm crazy, but I think the girls out there will understand.

Cheri

Wow...I was feeling your pain as I read your story. I so hated when my hairdresser went on maternity leave - not once, but twice At that time I was wearing very short hair, the kind that needed to be cute every 4 - 6 weeks.

BTW - a picture of the new do would be nice! It'll look so different in 2 weeks

I completely understand. I broke up with my stylist and had to find a new one.

Ironically, I'll mess around with my own color but for cutting I was petrified to change.

I'm so glad it turned out good for you! I've had panic attacks getting my haircut! So I understand your anxiety!

A good hairdresser is your best friend.
I do believe you have got to try a new one now and then.
But I ALWAYS go back and then I have to beg forgiveness.

What is the most you have ever paid for a hair cut and highlight ???
(This is the only thing hubby and I fight over when it comes to spending money)

I b*tch for days about it as well. But the man has me trapped in fear of other hairdresser's.He got me when I was young(15) and has made sure I need him.He always tells me if I run off to Playa I will be flying him down and paying that for a cut and color. We have really been best friends since we were 11.I hate him!

We go to Bleu too.

No disasters yet. Although the seņora had to go back once as they'd missed a whole section of her highlights! That was traumatic enough.

I'd go there just for the great head massage when you get your hair washed!
