Get away from Playa and you can see some differences. And the reason purified water is making its way to the small villages is not becuase the water is getting worse. My in-laws have started to purchase it becuase it tastes better and they can now afford it. If they are short of money they don't buy it and drink from the tap. (I can't believe I got sucked into this weeks water thread! You are on your own for next weeks thread. I'm making no comment on that one). |

I've always stayed in small hotels while in Playa & Isla. Never drank the tap water, but always brush my teeth with it & never got sick.
Back in Dec stayed at Secrects Capri, made coffee(lots) with the(purified) tap water thinking the heat would take care of the bad stuff. Well I got sick (low grade fever & sweats) for the rest of the trip. The only time I felt halfway decent was after 3-4 shots of tequila (wait that didn't sound good No More AI'S!

Ditto this! The one and only time I have ever been sick in 8 trips to Mexico, was from eating something at the only 5 star AI we ever stayed at. That food at the buffets is always suspect for being recycled and sitting in the heat for hours on end. It is much safer to eat at restaurants in town (the opposite of what people seem to think. )That said, we always drink bottled water, but brush our teeth in tap water in resort areas, with no problems. That includes the smaller non-AI hotels in town, but if I were staying somewhere NOT a resort area, I would use bottled to brush to be safe. |
