el fogon vs. carbonicitos
I finally made it to El Fogon a couple of weeks ago when I was down. I thought it was good, but taco v. taco, sauces v. sauces, I still prefer Carboncitos. Having said that, I've eaten at Carboncitos several times (the one across from Ajua,) and only once at El Fogon, which was, granted, very good. So, to ensure that this was a representative example, I feel compelled to go back to El Fogon for several more meals before rendering a firm opinion. Oy

James is right. Carboncitos is better than El Fogon. And Morton's is better than Outback Steakhouse. Any surprise there? El Fogon is still delicious and cheap and near my house, so I will still go there. And Carboncito's is delicious and very fairly priced, so when I am in the neighborhood, I will still go there. James is, like, so bourgeoise.

El Fogon v. Carboncitos
Last time I had tacos at Carboncitos (Saturday, when I left PDC), they were 9 pesos each at lunch. That's cheap. OK, so you pay up a bit for the extra sauces if you demand all of them, which I do, but it's still cheap. While we are talking overpriced, throw La Parilla into the mix. Now THAT place is overpriced and overrated, IMHO, and to extend the Morton's/Outback analogy, they have Outback quality with Morton's prices, relatively speaking.

Why has no one mentioned El Pastoricito? (sp?) Its right across the street from the north location of El Fogon, and I think they have much better tacos al pastor.
Heather - if you're still reading this thread - you know the place I'm talking about, right? It must be near your house. Do you dig the food there, or "not so much?" |
