In Spanish the word fogón has several meanings, depending on the country and/or situation. But in the end they all have to do with fire: stove, range, bonfire, hearth. By way of contrast, forgon is not even a word.

BTW, I took the dh and the grandsons to Carboncitos on 4th and we all became immediate fans of the food there. Now, I have a question - something that came up elsewhere. Are there two Carboncitos establishments in Playa? TIA

This year I was in 12th and 10th Ave. and I could remember than in the past there was a restaurant that had quesos fundidos and tacos in that spot, but found it completely changed. Instead I found "El rincón de Mama Juanita" but I remembered that the sign was different. Searching in my photo archive, I see you are right. The second picture proves it, but I don´t know if the restaurant is there or the sign was left forgotten. |

We ate at El Fogon twice during our 8 night stay and it was hands down some of the best food we had on our trip. My husband and I love the tacos al pastor. Carboncitos was OK for us, did not hold a candle in our book to El Fogon. We ordered 7 tacos al pastor and two beers for 59 pesos not including tip.

Of course there is a small street that starts (or ends) in 10th Ave. where Burritos del Gordo is located, which could be 12th, but I think it's more a "10th bis", will take a closer look on my next visit to playa. |
