El Fogón rocks my world once again.

My bf and I went to El Fogón again last night, on 30th avenue between 32nd and 34th streets and once again, had a stellar meal. I just wanted to shout their praises.

This place is consistently great and service is always friendly and competent. They bring 3 types of salsa to the table, along with a cucumber/radish/lime plate and a plate of grilled nopales and onion (delicious!). Then we started with queso fundido con chorizo (melted, stringy white cheese topped with spicy sausage) and frijoles charros (like a bean soup with bacon, ham, peppers, onions). Then, nearly stuffed, I had one taco al pastor and bf ate 2 (marinated, gyro-style pork tacos with onion, cilantro, and a bit of pineapple). I had a big glass of agua de jamaica and he had a beer, all for the incredibly low price of 105 pesos, pre-tip.

Can't say enough good things about this place; I'm so glad they are just up the street from me.

You ARE grumpy today, aren't you, girl? I was just thinking about the low carb options at El Fogon... queso fundido for sure. Dunno if beans are allowed or not. And I guess you could just delete the taco from everything else?

Beans are totally allowed, everything I ate was good, except the one corn tortilla with my taco. Also, I had about 4 tortilla chips. And, the sugar in my jamaica. I've been pretty bad.

You are so right Heather. Our favorite dish is the Arrechera Especial . A huge steak, baked potato, grilled onions, poblano chiles smothered in cheese, tortillas, and a bowl of those incredible beans! About 70 pesos. Its enough food to eat half, and take the rest home for tomorrow's lunch. Tony orders his "Nortena" style which means the steak is covered in grilled Chorizo! (you can hear the arteries clogging). And the best thing? They are open until 6:00 a.m.for those late night/early morning cravings.

I definitely agree on El Fogon! Last October, I think that I wore a path between it and Mom's! One of my last meals in Playa that trip was the "El Fogoncita," containing enough cholesterol to carry me to the end of the year! I think that if you finish the whole plate, they post your picture outside.

We have eaten there (at calle34) twice in the last two weeks. I love the Fogoncito because you get a cup of charros and a small portion of queso funditoalong with the main dish. Perfect for me because I can never decide what I want to start with. This week I had the Alambres Rancheros. Yum.

El Fogon in Cabo San Lucas

Anyone know if the El Fogon in Los Cabos is related to the 2 in Playa? We will be there next week for the first time.

destroyed me own happiness...

Went to El Fogón the other night with my old man and HAD TO WAIT FOR A TABLE. I'd say there were at least 6 tables of gringos. Looks like the word is out...and the gringos weren't just local gringos, either!
