Well to stop the rot: you'll have to limit the amount of people from the US buying flats to let for holidays to their countrymen; ban the showing of US sport in the bars; make them realise they're in another country and take some interest in it; use pesos; learn some touristic Spanish and get people to understand that they have to change some eating habits for 1 or 2 weeks!

At least the Italians here open some good restaurants that visually suit the local ambiance, unlike MacDonalds and American football (rugby with armour) matches blaring out of giant TVs.
