Fishing in Playa, first post, long time reader

First time post, I recently read about fishing in Playa ( I have been going for 12 years and never any luck fishing), and yes I did the search, but looking for a particular small boat that someone talked about recently just south of the new pier. Sorry I don't curse (not online anyway) but I do think someone should remove it for good, the pier that is. I do believe the man who owns the boat has a name that starts with N and maybe the boat starts with L. This is a very informative site and I especially enjoy the beach cam. Bless you all. I can't help you with the fishing, but saw "first post" and stopped by to welcome you to the forum. It took a couple of minutes because I checked your profile to confirm your occupation and had to edit my signature first. (I simply could not sign off on a post to a man of the cloth with Naughty Chica in my signature line.) Though it appears you have a sense of humor.

Welcome, Bless you too, good luck with the fishing. Keep checking in, Friday night is not exactly info night around here, but you'll get the info you need soon enough.

I think the post was by Doris and the guy's name was Noah or Noa. The name of the boat was something like Jairo II. I was looking for it when I was in Playa two weeks ago. I found the boat , but the crew was always gone. It is parked in front of the Gran Porto Real. We went out in another boat that was in the same area(the Anita) I caught one barracuda about three feet long. I would try to get a boat that would let you bottom fish, it seems to be more productive this time of year. For some reason some of the boats do not bottom fish.

We here at Playa.Info handle all fishing requests, so the official recommended fishing provider on this site is us. We use the most reliable captains for panga (skiff) fishing and for larger boats, we work directly with the best boats out of Puerto Aventuras and Cozumel.

Just click on trip planning above and follow the links.

James...

I'm always excited to learn about new ideas on this board. For instance, up until now I didn't realize that it was unacceptable to respond to requests of where and whom to fish with by other members seeking additional information.

I simply posted the definative answer to the question asked, as I had copy and pasted it for future reference. Although I'm fully aware of the various tours and planning you expertly provide, I thought my response that you deleted, served the purpose of this thread; to accurately answer and provide exactly the thread that the good Father was seeking. By the way does this blanket clause include the discussions of cenotes, hotels, and transfers?

At any rate, in the future I will refrain from posting information about fishing in Playa and leave that responsibility in the hands of the more experienced. I will edit my trip reports accordingly. Please accept my oppologies.

Shawn

SCR, thank you for the information. Luckily I had printed the information before it was deleted. I will be fishing alone and wasn't looking at chartering a large boat that would cost up to $650.00 a day. I tend to spend my money on the smaller businesses in Playa anyway. I didn't know the board was so restrictive in its posts, but I guess it is their board and their right to delete what they want. Maybe James can recommend someone in Playa that owns one of the smaller boats. Thank you again. Bless All.

Well, Playa.info IS a small business in Playa, so if you were to book through us, you would follow your intention. AND you would help support this site and the forum, which does provide a LOT of free information.

Playa.info does have Pangas to charter for fishing, and they do not cost 650 usd a day (a Panga is 220 for a half day and 340 usd for a full day). It's not a question of censorship, it's more a question of 'let's be respectful and not put up a sign to buy a Papa John's pizza in a Domino's'.

Fishing and other things

You know I usually don't do negative posts. But I've always been put off by the fishing rates for the smalller boats in Playa. Love to fish but am unwilling to pay their rates. You can get a boat in Zihuatanejo for $125. I can fish with a guide in Miinnesota for a full day with 30K of brand new equipment each year at $225 bucks a whack and they only have with a 4 month season. There must be some "overhead" I'm missing. Anyway it keeps me on the beach.

P.S. Much like this post there is getting to be more idle chat and less usefull information shared on the board. We should all remember its the information that gets people to use the site and frequent the advertised businesses and activities. Thanks for what you do.

Hello Anna.

Unfortunately we have never chatted on here as the opportunity has never presented itself. I have however, mentioned you, James and this site numereous times to family, friends and co-workers when the topic of converstaion leads to travel; some of whom have booked hotels, transfers and tours over the last two years.

I mention this only to show you that I have the outmost respect for the founders of this site and the staff that continue to provide professional services and freedom to it's members.

This is precisely why I'm puzzled why you would infer or suggest with your comment, "let's be respectful and not put up a sign to buy a Papa John's pizza in a Domino's", that I was disrespectful to you or this site by simply answering a question by a new member. And I'm equally puzzled as to why James would leave Teddy's post and delete mine; his post includes similar content and info that contradicts his new (to me) "fishing clause".

But since the question by Fathermcgilly was specific and included his lengthy fishing experience in Playa (12 years), I assumed he knew what he was looking for and wanted. In fact, he offered that he would be fishing alone; something I've done myself in the past. Incidently, the answer I provided is available to view using the search button.

Surely you don't think that I'm naive enough to believe that every member, or even the "regulars" for that matter, utilize all your services everytime they vaction in Playa? I didn't think so.

As you may or may not know, if you have had an opportunity to read any of my trip reports, you would have gathered from my experiences that I travel "lite". A trypical backpacker who enjoys travelling on a budget; something I know, from bits and pieces here and there, you have experienced in the past. This is why I would not require any of your services while travelling to Playa. Not because I don't think they're worth it, quite the opposite in fact. I personally believe there is not another website on the internet that can hold a candle to the professionalism, experience and freedom that you and the Playainfo staff provide for its membership everyday; for free.

Some of the avenues I've chosen for me to give back to Playainfo what I have aquired, is to generate buisiness and encourage others to sign up and utilize the services that are provided, which I've accomplished. Additionally, when I can, I provide answers and information based on my personal experiences in Playa.

If this is not acceptable to you or James as a member, please feel free to delete my membership, and no hard feelings will be spent. But I assure you I will continue to visit Playa and enjoy the people there that make this the most unique place to travel, on earth.

In the Spirit of Friendship,
Shawn

I would like to say a couple of things before I log off for a few weeks. I will try to keep it short, but I have been know to go a little long on a Sunday morning. (much easier to hit the back button on your browser than to try to sneak out the back door on a Sunday morning when things get a little long)
I was contemplating last evening whether to respond again to this thread. I believed my original question was appropriate since the information on the fisherman and boat name was something that I had already read in another thread.
I have to agree about the "fishing clause" aspect. Would this not also apply to a question about transportation to and from the airport since you provide van service and people recommend taking the bus. (I have used the van service in the past. Actually I have told friends of your service and you will be picking them up Monday morning at the Cancun airport)
I have used other services on this site before and probably will do also in the future. This site has always been great reading and very usefull.
James and Anna, I wish you nothing but the best in the future and believe you have been a success and will continue to do so. Also, if you feel you need to remove me from the board I also will have no hard feelings.
SCR thank you for the posts and don't worry about the Big Guy. Just remember to always be honest with yourself and to others.
Also to "Naughty Chica" thank you for the first reply on the thread. Love the name. Bless All.

Nobody will be 'deleted' from the board. We appreciate everyone's participation and willingness to help each other, and of course we appreciate very much that you guys send others our way. Sometimes it's a judgment call whether to leave something on or not. We don't often take things off - we do not censor people's opinions or experiences with other service providers that offer the same services we do. It's just that sometimes we feel that we have to remind people that, although this site might be free to use, it's certainly not free to run it. Let's just leave it at that.

We're more than happy to help people with any fishing requests. If you think that this site provides good and reliable information, you can feel confident that we will send you only to captains/boats that will give you a good experience. About prices on fishing here in Playa compared to other places - all I can say about that is that Playa.info does not mark up any prices. Thanks you guys for your contributions, and hope to see more of you in the future.
