Dual Sport Motorcycle Rental?

Hello all,
My GF and I will be staying in PDC Dec 20-27 and we would like to rent motorcycles.

Here in Canada I drive a DR650 Dual Sport (sort of a motorcross bike with signal lights, and such to make it street legal).

On other carribean vacations I have rented smaller dual sport motor cycles (like DT200, DR350, XT350, etc.) are there any places there that rent this type of bikes? I don't want any big HD or other touring pig, or any scooters - so anyone rent dual sports?

Thanks,
Phil Jensen

You don't see enough of those bikes around here. I know people with them, but I don't know of an outlet for hiring rental bikes.

Me too

I'm looking for something simliar but coming in January!!! Usually I have no problem getting something but bikes don't see to be too popular here. If you find something I'd be grateful if you could post the info here?
thanks

That's too bad. It seemed like everyone in Dominican was renting DT200's.

Oh well, I guess we'll be walking

Sounds like a business you could set up here.... anyone?

I guess it's based on our layout here being mostly small towns separated by good distances with highway. I think the highway is a bit scary for those bikes. I'm not a motorcyclist, so I'm not too sure there.

Nope, the work great on the highway. Maybe someone needs to import a couple and make some money.

They go up to about 130km/h on the highway no problem, and will offroad almost as good as a motorcross bike too.

I wasn't referring to bike speed capability so much as how highway traffic flows around here, and the need to expect the unexpected in your path a bit more in Latin America. Although I'm sure that an alert guy on a bike is safer than a poor driver in a speeding van.

Ah I got you now. If that is what you are discussing then the dual sport has an even greater advantage. A dual sport is much more manuverable, accelerates faster and brakes faster than a POS HD. It also has 10" or so of suspension travel allowing it to drive over obstacles during emergency manuevers. e.g. someone cuts you off - you jump a sidewalk, or you jump into a ditch, or a sugar cane field. These are things that would be difficult or impossible on a HD or super sport(and if you did the manuever - you'd probably trash the bike, or fall off). I have done all these things during the absolutely insane traffic in Puerto Plata and the surounding countryside. This is one of the reasons that I wanted to rent a dual sport.

HTH,
Phil
