Riu Palace Mexico??
I know it's in Playacar... but what resorts are on either side?
It's the one that's been there longer right? The Riu Palace Riviera Maya is the new one? I wish they would have thought of different names cuz this is confusing! Anyone stay at the Riu Palace Mexico? Does it have a nice beach? Crowded? Good food? |

The aerial view only shows one "Riu Palace" because when that photo was taken, there WAS only one - and it's the Riu Palace Mexico.
The Viva Maya is on one side of the Palace Mexico and the Riu Yucatan is on the other side. The Palace Riviera Maya is further north and closer to Playa Del Carmen, between the Viva Azteca and the Reef Club. The beach is fine, not too big and depending on the time of year - it will be crowded because of it's size and the fact that the entire length of beach in Playacar is shared among several other resorts. I was there in October and it did not feel crowded at that time - but I'm sure that is NOT the case now during high season! Food is a personal issue, people will never have the same opinions about food no matter where. My personal opinion of the food at the Palace Mexico was that is was VERY good - I didn't have even one complaint. I have not been to the Palace Riviera Maya yet but I can't imagine I'd feel any differently about the food there since the Riu's run all their resorts pretty much the same way. |

We love the Riu Palace Mexico. Been three times and going back for our 4th in Dec. Good food, good service, good beach. Some will say it's "stuffy" I prefer the term "laid back". Lots to do if you want to, but unlike some other resorts the animacion team do not push you into their activities. Mostly adults there but children are certainly welcome and the animacion team members try to get them involved. No formalized kids activities but they can go next door to the Yucutan. At both Riu Palaces, it's stay at one, play at six.

Thanks for the info guys... was asking for a friend who just booked there for their 10th wedding anniversary.
I thought I knew the area fairly well but got confused with all those Riu's! My husband and I are staying at the Akumal Beach Resort this June... can't wait. Just want to hang on the beach... and snorkel till we pass out! Mary |
