Looking forward to hearing about your trip.

Since we're (USA) not technically allowed to got to Cuba, I'm anxious to see your pictures and read your report. Have always wanted to go.

I will start with a map which shows where we went by car.

As I have mentioned before we first stayed 5 days in Havana. One of the days there we took a one day tour to Valle de Viñales and Cueva del Indio (the green track out of the map to the west). After our stay in Havana we hired a car for three nights where we drove to Trinidad (in the south) via the Bay of Pigs. One of the days in Trinidad we drove through the mountains to Santa Clara to see the statue of Che Guevara. After our stay in Trinidad de Cuba we drove north east through Cayo Coco to Cayo Guillermo for a 5 nights stay at an all inclusive in a tropical paradise. After that we flew by air back to Havana for the flight back home.

What a great way to start, Thor. To help with navigation, approximately how far from Havana to Trinidad?

It's a 5 hours drive. A little more than 200 miles.

Our hotel in Havana the first 5 nights was Del Tejadillo. It was a nice small hotel. It was beautiful and clean. We had breakfast, which was ok. But it is true: You don't go to Cuba for the food.

The hotel is in the old part of Havana, and the street outside is narrow.

The house was just ruins, but has now been beautifully decorated.

It's a small yard in the centre of the hotel, and the rooms are placed around it.

They have towel art in Havana like they have in Playa.

The hotel Del Tejadillo is just a few steps from the old Cathedral (The Cathedral in front, and the hotel on the left).

We met a Norwegian couple on the plane to Cuba. We had some great days together. They came with us on the car ride to Trinidad. And we are going to meet for a Cuba party soon.

(Kari to the left).

The plaza in front of the old Cathedral. (Our hotel is behind on the left side of the picture).

Remember: Cuba is a poor country. But all the people get free education and health care. And no one is starving. There is not any slum like in the Dominican Republic. But it is easy to see that the embargo is not a good thing for the cuban population.

Castro has managed to get money from Unesco to restore some of the houses in old Havana. But it's on time. Many of the buildings are in bad shape.

Kari in front of one of the many American cars from about 1950. But there were more cars in Havana than I had imagined. And many new ones. But they were probably driven by one of the tourists or someone working for the tourists.

From Plaza de la Revolución.
