Summer vacation: Cuba 2006

We have decided to not go to Italy this summer as we first had in mind. Italy has to wait.

We have now booked our vacation to Cuba. We are leaving Norway July 2.
First we are going to stay 5 days in Havana. Next we are going to rent a car and go to Trinidad, Cuba where we are staying for 3 nights. Then we are driving the car to Cayo Coco where we are going to stay at Sol Club Cayo Guillermo (AI) for 5 nights. Our last night will be in Havana.

This is going to be exciting!

I will come back with more details and pictures.

Sounds interesting. I'm curious as to what it's like to vacation in a communist country.

You globe-trotter, you! Sounds like a great time; I cannot wait for Cuba to be open to US citizens again.

Would appreciate it if you are planning to do some snorkeling to check out how that is in Cuba.

Our best to Uncle Fidel!

Cuba is a wonderful country and Havana is a fascinating city. I am sure you will have a wonderful time. Just make sure you have all your documentation on hand at all times because there are lots of checkpoints between "provinces" (not really what they are called but close enough) when you are driving around.

I have not been to Cayo Coco but have friends who have been there and it is a beautiful spot to spend the relaxing part of your vacation.

I also have friends who have been to Caya Coco and they loved it! The beaches are gorgeous and they actually said the snorkeling was very good.

But be prepared- it is VERY quiet around that area, unlike Varadero.

And the food at AIs in Cuba is quite bland- bring some spices and maybe some Tabasco! But the people and the music make up for the food!

Good idea!

I'm in love with Cuba, it's wonderful and fascinating place as Jodeci said. I've been there 3 times and I'm looking forward to coming back again! Havana and Guardalavaca are the places I liked best.

I want to go to Trinidad, Santa Clara and Cayo Coco too.

Waiting for your pictures....

Yes, I want to go to Italy! I want to see Pompei and Rome. But may be not for the summer vacation. I may go for a shorter time period. And I would like to see more of Italy as well. As you say: May be next year. If I'm not going to Playa.

Are you not coming to Europe this year at all Seakony? I was hoping to see you in Amsterdam.

Yes, the music is one of the reasons we are going to Cuba. And we want to see Cuba while Castro is there. I believe Cuba will change a lot when he is gone, and that they will open up for tourism.
