Uno pregunto: Often when we're walkin down 5th or the beach taking a stroll, a family ( or families ) is walking toward us taking up nearly the entire width of the street. Is it less rude to walk by on the guys side or the ladies side? We prefer not to split between the kids, who I've noticed are often on the middle or running ahead. So what would be the best way to do this???

ya se dice 'Tengo ganas de...' es decir "I feel like doing something" ?
como, "Tengo ganas de una cerveza" to mean "I feel like having a beer" ?

Correcto, lo puedes usar para las dos cosas tengo ganas de ir a la playa
tengo ganas de una margarita de tamarindo!
