There is a Thai place up on Constituyentes where I've been twice, and it's fine, but not great.
Loved John Gray's, but a couple of things were slightly overcooked.

I don't think of Babe's as "authentic" Thai, but more like a fun/fusion/tasty place to eat. They have a style all their own, and I like it.

John Grey's is on Calle Corazon, about 75 feet west of 5th Ave. Kelli and I ate there on our last trip TWICE and had very good meals. (BTW, its very unusual that we would eat twice in the same place on any one trip except HC de Monterey which we will usually hit three or four times.) Our total bill for two appetizers, two entrees, an order of garlic bread and a bottle of wine was right at $100 U.S.

The type of food is just mixed modern. For example, we had gorgonzola pork loin and rack of lamb with fig sauce on one visit, and macaroni and cheese with truffle oil and duck the other night. Very much worth a visit, IMHO.

And that was a complete damn shame. That place was GREAT!!!

I have a feeling Paul will end up having been just a little bit before his time. I think Zocolo is the direction in which Playa is heading, I think Paul just got there a year or two before everyone else could catch up!

You know we would love to!!! I feel the same way about you that I posted about Shammy the other night - we're so bummed that you aren't a neighbor! Can't drink tonight anyway though - I'm going diving in the morning in San Marcos (up at 5am for the drive!)

la famiglia!!!!!! We went there one night, and ended up going back the following night, and then the following night after that!!!!!

For anywhere between $50-$75 pesos, you pick your pasta, then pick your sauce, and you get a giant dish of freshly made pasta with fantastic sauce. And they give you a generous helping of freshly grated parmesan cheese for topping! The pizzas are fantastic, too. We ordered one once and brought half back to the hotel, put it in the fridge, and ate the rest the next afternoon.

Il Baretto is definitely at the top of the list. When we were living in Playa we would go 4-5 times per week. And it's a great bargain. The arrabiata sauce is amazing!

Just got back a few days ago and had one of our best meals at an Italian restaurant next door to Mannys beer garden. I think the name of it was Makkaroni. It was awsome!!! And very inexpensive. A must see on your trip.

Jscarbor's brother and his then brand new wife ate there in June and said it was fabulous. I walked past it a couple of times and never saw anyone in it, but you are the SECOND person to rave about it. I usually don't eat much Italian, but I may have to put this place on "the list." Thanks for the heads up!

a very good Italian restaurant, especially for fish, is LA SIESTA, on 1.a Norte between 12 and 16 north street ( next to phantom divers). They also have wood oven for pizza, but fish is the big deal...they also make paella, which is not very Italian, but ecellent!!!

My favorite is Giallo Limone on 5th & calle 28. They make fresh pasta every day (hand made) and have different specials everyday. Massimo& Veronika are wonderful owners of the establishment, and fun people to party with

I don’t know the name of the best Italian food I have had in Playa del Carmen, but I know where it is – small street front place just West of Manne’s Biergarten on calle 4 between Ave. 10 and 15.
I have eaten there a few times; on every occasion more than half the customers were Italian - I reckon they know quality Italian food ?
