Suggestion for Italian Restaurant?

I have heard absolute RAVES about the food at Posada Margherita in Tulum and as we cannot get down there this trip, I am wondering what the Playa equivalent of the most incredbile/ outstanding /fantastic Italian restaurant would be?

Scout,
I normally don't reply to posts with info that I haven't checked out myself, however since no on has replied in two days here goes. I am planning to try a place called Pasta Luego when I am down there in two weeks. There are quite a few people that were there recently that I have read on their trip reports that were very happy with the food there. It is on Mamitas road.

Don't think I'd describe Pasta Luego as "the most incredbile/ outstanding /fantastic Italian restaurant". Average would fit .... however, chacun a son gout.

La Pummarola had authentic thin crust pizzas like from Rome. We didn't try anything else though, but they were wonderful if you like that kind pizza. I wish we would have tried the other food, cuz the pizzas were right on by Italian standards. We will have to go back next year to try.

We also had pasta at Media Luna that was very good (fresh pasta)

Also Gialle Limone was very good. Gorganzola ravioli with asparagus sauce was very tasty, as was the prosciutto with melon

One other amazing food experience we had was at El Zocalo

We had the braised lamb shank and truffle mashed potatoes

The seafood bisque was excellent as well, as was the service.

Good luck!

We just got back from PDC two days ago. One of the most memorable evenings was spent at The Wine Bar on 5th Ave. The food was beautiful, service exceptional and the ambiance was amazing (we had a table facing the street). Candle lit with nice music and it's Italian.

Could you elaborate a little more on The Wine Bar? (ambience, menu, location, etc)

I'm wondering if you might mean The Glass Bar at Calle 12 and Av 5?

I was thinking that too as I had never heard of "The Wine Bar"...

I've done a search for "Italian Restaurants" and come up with ALOT of information, but was hoping someone could elaborate on the differences (food style, ambience, etc) on the following:

Il Duca
Carmencita
La Rucola
Glass Bar (I've never had dinner here-mainly because I was disappointed with my stay at Mosquito Blue. Perhaps this was a mistake on my part?)

Do any of these meet the criteria of my orignal post for that amazing Italian in Playa that is similar to the Posada Margherita experience in Tulum? Am I missing that aboslute "must" on my list?

Yes, you are correct. The Glass Wine bar at 5th and 12th. Sorry about that. I had to look it up on my PDC map!!! It was amazing. It is right on 5th so if you are lucky you can get a table facing the street. Tables are lit by candle light. We ordered some pastas and I think my son had chicken. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

The finest italian meal we had out of the three italian restuarants we tried was down in tulum. An italian has a small resort down there called posada margharita. The restaurant is nearest to the beach...and its small. he sits only 8 tables a night. make a rez and get there. His name is Alejandro (sp?)
I am telling you ,the setting and the service and food has made it the most memorable meal we have ever had....and I will toot our own horn, we like to find the finest restaurants, and we have been lucky enough to have eaten at more than a few.

I don't have an excellent Italian restaurant to suggest. Although, if you enjoy excellent food then John Gray's Place is a must. It's pricey but worth the money.
