GCB or GPR?

Hey everyone. Newbie here. Actually been lurking for a couple of months now (still can't figure the avitar out). Been going to Cozumel for the last 4 years and looking for something new (always intended to cross to PDC, never did). Have decided to stay at Grand Coco Bay or Gran Porto Real. Both have good reviews, ocean views and close to town. If anyone has pros and cons I would love to hear them. BTW, yes I have searched archives.

We just got back from GCB March 6. We loved it. It is a smaller resort and we liked that. The beach is beautiful, the pool is beautiful as well. The activities staff are a great bunch to have fun with. The food was much better than I had expected! That was our first AI so I have nothing to compare it with but for us, it was a good experience. Have Fun!

As far as the avatar goes. I always just pick a photo that I have on my computer (I scan all my vacation pics, or at least some) so that they are on my computer. You have to make sure you resize your photo to fit which is 120 x 120 pixels max. Then where it says browse, go to where your pics are and click on the pic you want for your avatar. If it is too big, it will tell you so you will have to make it smaller again...then just save changes! good luck. took me a while to get the pics the right size. Still not too good at it.

We just got back from the Royal Porto Royal which is right next door to the GPR and is it's sister hotel. I went in to the GPR a few times and walked the beach on that side a few times and I can tell you that if you want a beach this is not the place to go. There is no beach, there is a lot of sea weed that smells and it's not attractive at all. Not sure what the $$ difference between the two resorts is, but if you want beach I'd check something else out. There are lots of GPR fans, but just thought I'd mention the beach thing. Not meaning to offend anyone....

Yes, the beach at Grand Coco Bay is 100% nicer than the beach at GPR. I walked from one to the other a few weeks ago. The beach on the other side of the pier, at RPR is nice, but I don't know if you'd be able to use those chairs if you weren't staying at that hotel.

Nope, you can't use the chairs. GPR cannot use anything from the RPR side except the beach. We saw lots of people from GPR bring towels and relax on our side (RPR). The beach on the Royal side is beautiful.

I wish someone would help me decide on my other week. We're staying at Grand Coco Bay our second week, but I'm torn between Barcelo Colonial and Maeva Tulum for the other week!

It's not Grand Coco Bay in Playacar, it's The Reef Club Playacar. The other one is Grand Coco Bay on the north end. (This post is asking about either Grand Coco Bay (GCB) or Grand Porto Real (GPR).

We stayed at Gran Porto in March and really enjoyed our time. However, I was really impressed with Gran Coco Bay location. The beach is SOOO much better. It's at the end of the whole stretch of resorts so it is really beautiful. We loved it at GPR but were really eyeing Gran Coco for a future trip. Not sure on any other details in regards to that resort, but it was a great location.

I agree - Gran Coco Bay would be my choice! We just returned from the Royal Porto Real which is between the two. Hands down the beach is better at the Gran Coco Bay, it's also a little more secluded, but so close to town! The Gran Porto Real was really a party place if you're looking for that! Not crazy - but lots of fun! Just beware of the topless beach just south of the Gran Coco Bay if you're bringing kids. Didn't really notice that much so it wasn't an issue for me, but others may not feel the same! Either hotel, you'll be in Playa and I won't!
