Help...we're looking for a unique, peaceful resort...

We were married at the Xpu-Ha Palace Resort in May 2003 -- and LOVED it. It was everything we dreamed it would be. We had planned on going back for our anniversary this year, but sadly it is closed due to the hurricane damage. Can anyone recommend a similar resort that is all-inclusive, unique (thatched roofs woul be wonderful!!) like Xpu-Ha and not commercialized?? It can be in the Mayan Riviera/Cancun/Carribean... We've checked with several travel agents, but so far, they have failed us. Any ideas???

You might try Swept Away in Negril, Jamaica. The older section has a rustic feel and the rooms have very large verandahs and no TV. It's adults only and the service, food and ocean were wonderful. We had an outstanding time. We also liked Couples Negril. Rooms not as rustic, but the ocean was the best ever.

We loved Secrets Capri near Playa, but it's not rustic at all. It's beautiful and the food and services were outstanding, but very commercialized.

We enjoyed all three very much.

Also Las Palapas, they're both at the north end of town so the beaches are not crowded, and they're right on the beach. We checked them out last time, thinking about staying there sometime in the future. I believe that breakfast and dinner are included.

if you decide to go the non ai route there are definitely tons of great restaurants in playa, along with hotels.

You may want to look into the El Dorado Royale or seaside suites. Both are adults only and lots of honeymooners. The Royale is very spread out so you can have lots of alone time if you wish!! Enjoy!!!

I agree. Plus it's adults only. We realized last year just how important that was to us when staying at an AI!

If you enjoyed Xpu-Ha, you will love the Spa/Aventura Palace. It is a AI Adults only resort. It is laid back and very relaxing. The staff is wonderful and we can't help but stay there when we go back every year. I hope you have a great time.

The Iberostar Cozumel looks very similar to XPuha, and they just had a major renovation. My friends love it there.

I agree with butterfly. We stayed at EDSS in April 2005 and loved it. We are going back this June...hopefully.

I vote for Secrets Capri. no thatched roofs, but small and intimate with great service, rooms and food! No reservations for dinner,no towel cards, etc.

It's not an AI...AND it's not even right on the beach, but the pool, little poolside bar, and the vibe are amazing! Latortugahotel.com
