I second The Guernsey Literary and Potato Pie Society. I LOVED that book! Actually, I think it was one of your recommendations to begin with.

A few more fiction recommendations:

Bridget Jones' Diary
The World According to Garp
The Princess Bride

Edited to add (and can't believe that I didn't put this one first!): The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I really enjoyed that book. Have my mom to thank as she read it and gave it to me, it isn't the kind of book I would have necessarily picked up on my own.

Have you read anything else by Bill Bryson? It's all good! A Walk in the Woods is particularly funny and also very interesting.

Wait, we're not done!

Oh, and my mom just said The Darkest Evening of the Year by Dean Koontz. I said, Dean Koontz? She asked for funny/inspirational. Turns out it's about a Golden Retriever that may or may not be a guardian angel. See what I know?

This is a new book and I haven't read it yet, but it's on all of the lists right now as a must-read. Supposedly it's very inspiring.

Amazon.com: Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail eBook: Cheryl Strayed: Kindle Store

Clicked through to read summary and reviews.

This was from the second review:
Quote:
Cheryl Strayed had her life fall apart when she was still in her mid 20's- personal disasters, tragedies, poor life decisions. Her Mother had just died painfully from cancer, she was dabbling in drugs, she divorced her husband, no decent job, no money- and even more bad things.
Might not be a good choice for a lady who is currently battling cancer, and probably worries about leaving her children behind?

That being said, it does look interesting. When you have finished, be sure to come back and let us know your thoughts and whether you'd recommend it or not. I'll wait for your review before picking it up.

The problem I have found with some memoirs (although I will admit that I don't read a lot of them) is that they tend to bug the shit outta me. Particularly ones written by women "discovering themselves". Eat, Pray, Love drove me up a f**king wall.

Well, honestly I haven't added it to my wish list yet because I hate memoirs, too.

I couldn't finish it, but my SIL absolutely loved it.

I like memoirs occasionally, but I can't seem to think of any that are not depressing/dark, even if they end on an inspirational note.

Non-fiction: I am currently reading Lisa Bloom's Think and enjoying it.

I'm currently reading House of Leaves and it is wild. It's not easy, but it is wild. Would not recommend for Kindle or any other e-readers. You need to hold this one, trust me.
