Read more on the beach than I do all year long - love my new Kindle
Over last three months have read:

- Still Alice
- Water for Elephants
- Help

James Patterson Books - all easy reads if you like his type of books
-9th Judgment
-10th Anniversary
-I Alex Cross
-Kill Alex Cross
-Mary Mary
-Now you see Her

Also read "The End of Normal" by Stephanie Madoff Mack - I had seen her on The View so thought I'd read the book - not worth the effort - I do feel sorry for her that her husband committed suicide and I do not think he was aware of his Dad's criminal activity but I felt she's just sorry her high life style has come to an end and I'm sorry I contributed to her income by buying her book - IMHO

Currently re-reading Anna Karenina

Thanks to Mel:

It's pretty good. I'm a little more than halfway through. I'm an atheist, so the idea of the embryonic faith doesn't impress me so much, but the book has many other redeeming qualities.

Harry Crews died.

Quote:
Crews did not look or act like your typical college professor, shaving his head or wearing a Mohawk and making every literature lecture a performance. Other writers described him as “riveting,” especially when he was talking about writing.

“A writer’s job is to get naked, to hide nothing, to look away from nothing, to look at it,” he wrote. “To not blink, to not be embarrassed by it or ashamed of it. Strip it down and let’s get to where the blood is, where the bone is.”

Hands down, A Feast of Snakes remains the most f-ed up novel I've ever read (well, top 5 for sure). Disturbing, violent, completely memorable.

I am reading Alice Hoffman's The Dovekeepers.

Amazon.com: The Dovekeepers: A Novel (9781451617474): Alice Hoffman: Books

It's pretty great so far. I only got in the first chapter (each of the four chapters centers around the different story of four women in ancient Israel) before a mountain of grading descended on me. I hope to pick it up again next week.

I just finished that one a while back, and thought it was pretty good. To me, it kind of got long in the middle, but I particularly enjoyed it, having visited Masada a couple years ago.

I finished Pure, and I've got to say, those are some bizarre characters! I loved it, though, and can't wait for the next one.

I'm so glad!

I really like Alice Hoffman, and I always sort of forget about her when I'm looking for a good book. She's written so many. I enjoyed: Illumination Night, Here on Earth, Blue Diary, and Practical Magic.

Don't bother reading 50 Shades of Grey.

(unless it's for some comic relief.)

What a cheesy, horribly written turkey that book is!

I am almost done reading The Help (finally! stupid Game of Thrones series took way too long to get through! ). I am LOVING it. So good.

My sil liked it, but after reading the backstory (it started as Twilight fan fiction online) I decided just to order it from the library because I was curious. I am in a line behind about 100 other readers!

How bad? I'm mean, no so-bad-it's-kinda-good element?

so bad I only read three chapters and gave up

bad in a Nicholas Sparks totally cheeseball dialogue sort of way? So awful you want to roll you eyes but then you can't focus on the page? So bad they made the sex, which should be deliciously titillating- boring and repetitive?

I did skip ahead to see if those scenes at least improved....nope.

The Help. Saw the movie and loved it and like the book more. Next is Water for Elephants. I've seen that movie too but I find that if I read the book and then see the movie that I'm disappointed in the movie. When I do it the other way around and I enjoy both. After that I am looking forward to reading Homer's Oddessy, a story about a blind cat that everyone who's read it says it's a wonderful story. I probably have 30 books here
to read, I think I'm becoming a book hoarder....collecting them and not doing much with them !

I really enjoyed it, too. And like beach midwife, I've been to Masada. And Jonah was actually AT Masada while I was reading it a few months back. Plus there are two character names in the book that are actually my children's hebrew names, so that was sorta cool.
