As far as we're concerned they have done a good job of reclaiming beachfront. You easily have the choice of sitting on the beach or by the pool. We went to the Beach Club once and found it to be no better than at the resort. It appears they are using the Beach Club as part of their promo to visitors (ha). Overall they've done a good job of renovating and reclaiming. Much better than many of the big name resorts just down the way from them.
Hope this helps. We were their at the end of March/07 by the way. |

We were there last Nov. and the beach was being reclaimed then and it was almost done. They have rebuilt the pool and had a great time. We will be going back the first week in Oct. Can't wait. Have fun. Tell Luis that the eagles fans will be down in Oct. Mr. Ingles.

That is great to learn. We haven't been to Playa since before Wilma, and are anxious to see what it is like now. I'm trying to decide where to go tosnorke;. Usually we go down to Akumal a couple of times, and Paamul, but I remember reading on here that Paamul was hit pretty hard. Is the Tukan beach club still around?

wife and I had a great time at Fishermen's. We flew into Coz and caught a taxi outside the airport to the ferry for 5$, ferry ride for 20$ to PDC, and made the mistake of trying to save money and dragged our 3 suit cases to Fishermens. Won't try that again. At Fishermens they treated us real well upon signing into the room. We were offered to go on another 1 1/2 hour tour update to the new Tres Rios and other upgrades for several door prizes. We took the tour on Sunday morning, and it wasn't too bad! After realizing I could stay at Fishermens and do a day trip into Tres Rios, I decided there was no need to upgrade! Total tour time including breakfast was 3 hours with a pretty sales lady. So I got a free 55 min. massage and two tickets to the Andalusion horse show/dinner theater. It was great. My wifey had the massage while I went scuba diving the tortuga reef and the barracuda reef. The water was about 50' vis. on the reefs. For diving, go to Cozumel, it is soooo much better. The water wasn't good for snorkling for about 100' or so from shore at Fishermens, and any further out than that was too dangerous because of all the wave runners coming too close to the roped off swimming area. The food was good for an AI, and the waitstaff was excellent! And you could get doubles on your acohol in the drinks. I will definetly go again. Next time we will go to Wallymart on Saturday night and load up on foods and beverages instead of doing the meal plan. We did only 3 days of meal plan as it was, and decided we could have done better $ wise. And the downtown merchants have gotten real used to the ships coming in faithfully enough to raise their prices up. Some would deal 5 to 10% down, but not many!

Yes, the pictures of the reclaimed beach would be great - anyone's got them?
Also, I know they increased the price of AI and now offer just a meal plan in addition to AI. Anyone has any first-hand experience with either? How much are the prices for breakfast, lunch and dinner if paid individually? Any comments on food quality and selection? |

do they still force the AI on your or some other form of meal plan? because the time we were there, the food plan was not worth it and with the bars shutting down at 9pm, that wasn't worth it, either. I'd rather shlep up to Sprawl Mart and get breakfast foods and my own liquor and go into town for lunch and dinner. My friend's dad owns a time share there and it was a nice place (prior to wilma) and in the middle enough to hit Tulum and that sort of thing, so we like the place and the location, just we felt the meal plan was a rip off and would rather apply that money towards food and booze we control.

yes it helps a lot, thanks!! I am real glad I don't get sucked into the whole time share phenomena because the purpose isn't clear to me, honestly -my friend's dad is the time share victim- but it ends up being cheaper for us to go to a riu or an iberostar and have drinks after 9pm.
