New camera
Does anyone have experience with the Canon S80? In particular, I'd like to hear some real-life experiences (tips) taking underwater photos.
It has a set "underwater" white-balance. Has anyone had success with this mode with this or any other digital camera? |

James, Canons are the best for underwater.
I have the Canon Powershot A95 and it took really great pics under water. Don't know whether the S80 does have the underwater program. That's what I used (together with flash and macro-function). And most of the divers on the dive-boat in Thailand had Canons too.Andrea |

I checked out your photos and was really happy to hear that they were from a Powershot. Did you use auto white balance, or did you set it manually?
BTW...I went solo to Koh Samui once and after an all-nighter, ended up (on an ex-pat's rec) at a small restaraunt on the beach called the Magic Mushroom. I had been told to order one of the "special" mushroom omelets. I did, stuck it in my briefcase, and headed back to Bangkok. My intention was to eat it for dinner and then head to Patpong for the night. I never made it out of my hotel room. |

Just uploading about 80 underwater pics to my website... I still can't believe that my cam made so great pics. It has a special program for underwater pics and that's what I used (in addition to flash and macro-function once I realized I had to use those as well).
![]() Lots of people go to Koh Samui these days but I think the other side is better for diving. |
