Riley Grace's Hip Check
So I mentioned the lump on Riley's right hip that we detected last week.
It was inspected by the pediatrician on Wednesday and she sent us for an X-ray on Wednesday evening. They called with the results today. Turns out the X-ray showed her hip to be out of socket, also known as hip dysplasia. We have an appointment with a specialist next Wednesday, the 11th, where he will evaluate it and we'll go from there. As you can imagine, another hard day for us. From everything I've read, this is something very treatable, but it can take some time, and the different devices she might have to wear look horrible, although I know they would be necessary. Here's one website I found about it. http://www.hip-baby.org/index.html Does anyone else have any personal experience with this? |

Char,
I am so sorry that you are having to go through this...seems you have had an awful lot to handle lately! Know that we are sending our best wishes...try to keep your spirits up....she is young and beautiful....and so are you... you will get through the challenges.. I've always admired your spirit...hold tight onto that strength as best you can and give that pretty little girl a big hug from me, (one of) her virtual uncles...and another one to you! |

Thanks for the update. Poor Riley. That sounds painful. Give her lots of hugs for me.
Sarah and Shane had to have casts on their feet (went up to their knees) because their feet were curved! And Shane had to wear special shoes that were attached to keep his feet facing the right way! |

My oldest had something similiar. He had to wear special shoes with a locking bar between until he was about a year old. Looked like an instrument of torture but it really didn't seem to bother him any. He didn't walk until he was 15 months old but it seems to have taken care of the problem with no residual effects. Positive thoughts coming your way for Riley Grace.

Char, prayers and positive thoughts coming your way. It is so hard to be a parent and watch your kids go through any kind of pain. Just know that you have all of us here thinking about you and Mike and your precious little girl. Prayer is powerful.
