Juicing

Anyone into juicing? I should buy a really good juicer, but at the moment I'm still using my Juiceman Jr. There are way too many parts, which is the major annoyance, but other than that, it does a good enough job.
So what combos have you made and which are your favourites?
I made a nice combo this morning which tasted great. Carrots, beets, apple and 1/2 key lime.

Actually Mari I never drink juice...I read somewhere that it is better, nutrition-wise to eat the whole vegetable or fruit, not drink any kind of juice. that way you are getting the fiber and not just the empty calories and sugar of juices.

I could never get tasty juice from my juicer. Even pure apples would turn out a bitter apple juice so I gave up.

I only drink juice if it's cut with a little vodka.

I agree with you Rissask, but once a day isn't too bad. Sometimes I don't feel like eating that many fruits and veggies, though I eat lots of salads (twice a day), and do eat fruit. BTW, haven't you ever noticed how many juice stands and shops there are in Mexico? My Spanish teachers always started the day off with fresh carrot or beet juices.

Yes, they make great smoothies there. I like them very icy. it's really the only time I drink it! Except Clamato with my beer or cranberry with my vodka, like mentioned.

I like carrot, kale or parsely, 1/2 of an apple and 1/2 lemon. I also like to add cucumber sometimes. I don't juice fruit. I like to eat the fruit. But I did buy a citrus juicer this past winter. I love fresh sqeezed orange juice-like they have in Playa. Probably why I bought it this winter to help make me feel like I am there.
I have a Juiceman Jr. too. I have had it for probably 10 years and it still works great. I always make sure I use organic veggies too. I can taste the pesticides otherwise-especially the apples.

I did my first juice fast this time last year and absolutely loved it! I felt fantastic, my allergies went away, my skin glowed and I lost six pounds. I killed my juicer tho so my fast has been postponed this year.

I try not to do too many fruit juices but I have to say my favorite is apple/grape juice with a small bit of carrot added. YUMMM

I also make my own 'v-8' type juice with tomatoes, carrots, lemon, spinach, basil, cucumber, bell pepper, and garlic. You can also warm the tomatoe juice just slightly then add the other juices for a 'soup'

Cucumber juice is excellent for liver, gall bladder and blood detoxing. Add just a tiny bit of lemon juice to it.

Watermelon juice is a natural diuretic and is a great way to start off a fast.

I understand that there are many people who don't 'buy' it but, juiceing is a great way to get many of the vitamins and nutrients that most of us just aren't going to get on a daily basis that we really need. Of course it's best to try to consume the whole fruit of veggie but how many people actually get the servings they need of these foods. Always use the whole food when possible and limit fruit juices to one a day (dilute fruit juices by half with distilled water). Try to get your regular daily servings of fruits and veggies along with the juices to maximize your good health.

I'm glad this isn't the "British To American..." thread...

Tell me more about the fast. How long do you stay on it and does this mean all solid foods are eliminated? I try to have one glass of veggie just per day. The only fruit I add is an apple, and that's because some of the apples are just so horrible to eat. I'm not a big fan of apples either (eating). I prefer tropical fruits and could live on papaya, mango, and a variety of plums, pineapple ect. that's found in the Caribbean. Alas however, I'm stuck with the usual boring fruits in winter time.
