Need cheaper All-Inclusive

We have friends who are getting married in May, and cannot seem to find an All-Inclusive for their wedding, that will be affordable for their guests.

So far, the hotel of choice was Viva Azteca (they've been there before), but the prices are $1700 CAN per person (including flight, for about 7 nights I believe), which they think is too high for their families back in Canada.

Does anyone have any suggestions on another nice hotel that could host a wedding, but would be cheaper than this???

I'm starting to panic a bit, because we'll be attending the wedding as well, and can't book anything until they make up their minds on the hotel!!

We are heading to PDC in Feb and staying at the Occidental Caribbean Village. We have stayed there before and really liked it. It is one of the cheapest we could find from Vancouver, B. C. We are flying with Companion Holidays, but Conquest was the same price. The other AI that we found in the same price range was Caracol Village.

Caribbean Village is NOT on the water, but it does have its own private beach club right next to the Reef Club. They have all the amenities at the beach you could want and there is a shuttle that runs everyt half hour from the hotel to the beach and it also stops at PDC. Free of course.

My niece stayed at Caracol Village last year and quite liked it. It is north of PDC but has a bus that runs into PDC a few times a day. Free, of course, and it is right on the beach. She felt the food was good, etc. Same things we found. We have just decided tos tay where we are because we knew it and felt comfortable with the accomodations. The shuttle is a real hoot as well.

Good Luck!

Those were the cheapest we could find. Good Luck!

Well, looks like we might not even end up in the Mayan Riviera after all. The couple getting married desperately wants to find cheaper accomodations for family who can't afford high prices. They're saying that $1500 CAN per person is too high (air/hotel). So now they're considering getting married in the Dominican Republic instead. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they'll stay with the Mayan Riviera, because I feel like I know this area already from all the research in this area!!

Anyways, does $1500 CAN per person seem high for a week in Playa including airfare/AI???

I paid about $1400 CDN for a week at the Riu Playacar (AI). I think it was worth every penny, and I'm a student working part time for about $7 an hour.

All-inclusive resort

I don't know if you found anything yet, but I just booked an all-inclusive trip for 6 days, 7 nights to the Barcelo Maya Beach/Garden Resort for me and my 12 year old son for the first week in June. I paid $1800US for the both of us (includes everything). I don't know the exchange between US and CAN but $900 per person (including airfare) is very cheap.
Everything I read about the resort is great. Its a 5 star resort and they do have weddings there.

Barcelo Maya Beach

Hi,
My husband and I booked Barcelo Maya Beach for March 30th - April 5th, 2003 for our 5th wedding anniversery - our price for the both of us, TOTAL, including Airfare and transfers is $1,985.78!! (US), Pretty good price!!!

They do have beautiful weddings, I've heard! This will be our first visit to the Rivera Maya region and counting the days!!

Good Luck!

$1500 Canadian is unrealistic for an all inclusive, unless you go during hurricane season. IMHO, I think you have a pretty good price already.

Thanks for the information. The couple is considering the Gran Porto Real for the moment, I'm assuming because there is a European AND all-inclusive option, so it can be cheaper for people who want to pay less.

Club Bananas is another less expensive AI resort in Playa del Carmen. It is not as nice as the Porto Real and not right at the beach but they have a bus that takes you to the beach club (not far away). I think the prices there are very good.
