prohibition on dogs on beach reinforced

Walking in the other day I saw that an updated version of the sign announcing that pets are prohibited on the beaches of Playa had been installed by the city at the end of the 8th street. It's basically the same sign as before but with the updated Solidaridad logotype and such things, and also this time mounted on metal legs. The same sign is in place in the same way at the end of 6th, so I assume it must be up and down the beach again. Just in case it seemed like the city was letting this issue die, well, apparently it isn't.

I'll see if I can get a shot of the sign later to post here, for what it's worth.

I guess it'll depend on whether the signs mean that people are actually going to be handing out tickets or its just a warning that won't see enforcement.

They're serious. We got two warnings and the second time were told to remove the dog from the beach immediately or they would take him. Several friends had the same thing happen. This was up around Coco Beach. At Mamitas the other day they were really going to take another friends dog, it took a good 20 minutes to convince them otherwise.

wow, hardcore. Dogs never really bothered me except the odd one who would rip around kicking sand everywhere and running right over top of people lying on the sand. No dogs allowed on the beach here in Vancouver either so I guess that's life for dog people.

Yeah, it's the few bad apples that spoil the bunch. We usually have some success going far far north or Coco Beach, but we are a conscientious bunch and clean up after our dogs.

Now if only they could put up a sign that would ban the a-holes who leave litter and cig. butts on the beach!! Jerks!

Here you go, at the end of 8th and 6th streets, respectively:

I really meant something more like renewed or extended in the title to the thread, not reinforced. Enforcement certainly is a separate issue, and it's interesting to hear of renewed enforcement recently. But at any rate, the ordinance apparently is still there and somebody is thinking about it enough to have new signs put up.

At Tukan and Mamitas beaches, there are also signs prohibiting people from swiming in the sea after drinking alcohol or/and eating food. Fellow beachgoers are asked to report such incidents to the competent authorities. However, it doesn't specify whether offenders will be x-rayed or asked to empty their stomachs.
And the sign prohibits all mascots - not only dogs - so don't even dream of bringing your goldfish for a stroll and bowel clearing.

You're talking canines, right?
I mean - just thought I'd check....what with Nikki Beach coming in and all...
I'd sure miss the beach if that were the case.

I actually saw a dog hike his leg, and attempt to urinate on a lady sunning on the beach one time. It appeared to be a neglected dog, and was trying to repay humans for not feeding him on a regular basis. My wife and I both laugh about it every once in a while. You know unexpected showers do happen in Playa, but this lady was really not expecting this one. I am laughing right now just thinking about it.

I know there's a fair amount of sentiment out there opposed to the ban on dogs on the beach, especially it would seem in areas of Solidaridad (which the ban officially covers, as shown by the photos of the signs above) that are not as trafficked as Playa might be. However we have a guest now who must be all for it, as he was bitten by a dog on the beach in Akumal on Sunday.

Says it was an older dog lying still, apparently asleep, in front of a restaurant there (La Buena Vida) but which surprised them by jumping up suddenly, rushing at them and biting the man somewhat lightly on the leg. As them included not only his wife but also their son of about 10 years old, they were happy things didn't get any uglier. They say the manager of the restaurant, who said he was not the owner of the dog, rushed out to assure them that the dog had had all its shots.

Of course even if that's the case, it's hardly the sort of incident you want to have happen to you while trying to relax on your vacation, just strolling on the beach, and hardly the sort of news that can serve the region well in terms of publicity...

Ya should've seen me flipping out on a timeshare shark back in May 2005 after his freakin' hyper monkey bit me and drew blood!! He showed me all sorts of certificates, etc. which supposedly indicated that the little beast had had all his shots.

I still had David watch me for a few days in case I started frothing at the mouth or developed an insatiable appetite for bananas.

Dont worry Nerak,

Our banana tree in the garden here at the Rana, is laden with a huge bunch of bananas, which might just be ripe enough for you next week!
