No, actually not......this isn't something new. I use to volunteer at a yoga center that is backed by the Himalayan Instititute, they actually have classes that bring yoga and spiritual healing with in the realms of a organized religions. The reason it sounds so awkward is most spiritual teachers do not follow the organized religions......

well, up here in the northerly regions where'n we don't put so much emphasis on political correctness and all that shite, yoga class is just a place where you stretch your arse, work your flabby belly, learn to breathe and relax and let your troubles and stress fly out the window for an hour. Religion and crap don't enter the equation ??

Yes, a person who just goes into a yoga class for the wonderful benefits would never see the difference between the belief of the teacher and religion. Thats the whole point Mikey was pointing out. But once you start living the life as a spiritual teacher its a big difference. All the yoga teachers I know are spiritual teachers. They didn't take a yoga cetified class to go out there to make money, they are doing it because its a part of life. I am so sure I'm not explaining this very well, sorry

Yoga and meditation is supposed to help you reach enlightenment, and is definitely not a way to brain wash or convert anyone to join a religion. I know that's not what you're saying, but I figured I'd add a bit more to your post.
I've seen some weird things happening to yoga on this side of the pond though...yogarobics? I've also come across some super religious folks (fanatical) that think yoga is WRONG...it's the devil's work That's so amazing. Ignorance is truly bliss
