I just came back recently from the Riu Playacar and I loved it! I found no water bugs, or any other bugs for that matter. It is a very clean resort, the staff is extremely friendly, and the food is pretty good. If you have any specific questions about the Riu Playacar, just let me know.

The Palace looks great on the outside, but it looks too ritzy for me. I'd love to stay there just to see what its all about, but I'd rather pay a few hundred less and feel more comfortable at the Playacar. At the Playacar, you feel more relaxed. I also think there are more North Americans at the Playacar, and more Europeans at the Plaza, but thats just with my trip in December, I'm not sure how it usually is.

Also, there weren't too many topless girls on the beach. Alot of guys in speedos But the beach was great, I felt very comfortable, it wasn't crowded at all.

Barcelo is a beautiful resort, but when we were there in December we didn't see too many in your age group (there were alot of families and couples older than you). I would think that you might be happier at a place with a more lively atmosphere, closer to town.

Every one of the resorts you mention is first class. We stayed at the Barcelo recently and it was wonderful. Both Riu and Iberostar hotels are known to be at the top of any list of best AI resorts. If you want more seclusion and a larger beach go with Barcelo which is 15 mins from PDC and is not bordered by any other resorts. If you want some nightlife outside the resort go with any of the first three you mention which are in Playacar (adjacent to PDC).

You can't go wrong with any of your choices. Good luck!

RIU Palace! Good choice

ludwickjj,

My wife and I are headed down to the RIU Palace Feb 22 for a 10 day stay! We did a lot of checking with people who have been there. One of my co workers who settles for nothing but the best stayed at the iberostar last year. He said it was really nice but said the RIU Palace is by far the best in PDC. Another one of my co workers has been traveling Mexico for 10+ years. He said they have never returned to the same hotel twice. However last year he stayed at the RIU Palace, he said its the best AI he's been to in Mexico and is planning to return a second time this year. There are plenty of websites to do your research, I did many hours of it. We think we will not be disappointed going to the RIU Palace, if we want a little excitement you have access to all the RIU properties, and you can stay put in the Palace if you want the peace and quiet (no kids). Best of all they can't come to the Palace! We to are a younger couple 27/25, check out this website to help you make your decision, good luck we will be back on March 3rd and a full trip report will be written! ----kmasp430 (MN)

Iberostart Tucan

I've been searching the RIveria Maya for about 3 months ... three women I work with have gone there at least two times each and love the Iberostar! One woman is going back - this will be her fourth time this May. We are also going first week in May and yep, we're going to give the Iberostar Tucan a shot!!! Looks beautiful and if someone goes back four times, must be worth the money.
