Communication to colectivo driver

How do you differentiate between the town of Tulum and the ruins when communicating with a colectivo driver? I know from past experience saying Tulum ruins will be good enough for going to the ruins, but what is the correct way to say we want to go to the town of Tulum?

Ruins = Las Ruinas (Tulum, Las Ruinas)

Town = La Puebla (Tulum, La Puebla)

Not really a very good idea since a cab would cost way more than a colectivo and since we will be in Mexico and want to try our best at being good guests in their country.

Yup, just say "Tulum Pueblo, por favor."- he will get it.

If you really want to be a good guest, you should spend more money.

No problemo! We take colectivos everywhere when in Playa and rarely found a driver with really good English, so it is a good opportunity to brush up on your Spanglish.
One time we had a nice fellow who dropped us off at Aktun Chen entrance....he was trying desperately to communicate something to us but we didn't understand what he was trying to say. So we just smiled and tried to reassure him....after he reluctantly left we figured out what he was saying- the entrance was over a 3 km walk in from the highway and one of our party had a wrapped ankle! Luckily a shuttle showed up.

Or....

You can just rely on the fact that most every collectivo driver has ESP! When we were down there the first part of April we ran up to the collectivo stop, asked "Van a Tulum?" and hopped in. We talked about the ruins IN ENGLISH only several times throughout the trip, but never directly to the driver. He pulled off at the corner stop, told us it was "Las Ruinas" and off we went!
ESP? Magic? An English speaking collectivo driver? Dumb Luck? Quien sabe? We got there, got back just as well. Must be the Playa Magic!

June 6 - 13. This trip is a celebration of kicking cancer's ass! What better place to celebrate!
We were in Houston yesterday for a CT scan on her liver. She had a lesion on it the docs discovered before she started chemo. They wanted to make sure it hadn't grown and it hasn't. She had a bone scan several weeks ago and that came back positive too. So we are done with it all and it's time to celebrate!
