Not to be picky, but the above "profile" is hardly racial in nature. You are talking about very distinguishable physical characteristics which have nothing to do with race. It is the same thing as saying "the guy who robbed be was on a purple bike and was wearing a red baseball cap and a brown leather jacket." NO ONE has a problem stopping anyone fitting either description.
I knew that- which I left 'racial' out....but I was trying to make a point, physical descriptions can be useful but using race as the only descriptor is wrong, IMO- and results in more harm than good overall for a society, KWIM? As in the loss of dignity, the loss of freedom....maybe it was a bad analogy , but this:

And you should not be pulled out of line at the airport because of the color of your skin or your ethnic descent.
Sounds like we are on the same wavelength.

KrazyForPlaya, I'm so sorry to hear about y'alls experience. What an insidious thing prejudice and it's consequences are for us all.
Ditto that too....sheesh, what a-holes.

First of all I don't profile anybody. Its just that I hate every one there for I suspect everyone. Only kidding here.

Last year about this time we here in New England were having a ong end to our winter. However in Washington, D.C it was qute different, the temp there was about 80 and in Mass it ws still abot 40.

On a Monday I was playing tourist in D.C. and taking a walk around the White House. Not being totally use to the difference in temps I wa sweating quite badly. All the sudden this gentleman in plain clothes walks up to my side and starts talking to me. Eventually we ended up talking about the Red Sox and other things. However, because I was sweating so much I think he was checking me out to see if I was nervous, because he thought I was about to try to jump the white house fence.

Then about a year before I was just walking just of the La Infante Plaza. You can pick up the transit system there. I don't carry a watch with me so I use the little clock on my camera to tell the time. Well right out of the Plaza in where the NRC(Nuclear Regulatory) building is. All the sudden this person pulls up and gets out of a government type van. He walks over to me and tells me that you are not allowed to take pictures in this area.

He then takes down my name and othe info. Now there are no no camera signs in that area. Also there use to be a statute of a donkey and elephant depicting the two major political parties in this country right in front of the NRC building, these two items would be natural interests to those wanting to take pictures. Specially if you are apolitical buff like myself. Since then they have removed those two items.

But being pulled over because you are "driving while black" is offensive to me ... and I am as gringo as they come. And you should not be pulled out of line at the airport because of the color of your skin or your ethnic descent. Why not harrass everyone who has a fat ass too ... or maybe dimples? They are no more an indicator of terrorist activity than owning green Nikes.

If it has really come to this, that the population of this country thinks this sort of activity is OK, than Osama can run up the victory flag. He has suceeded at changing who we are as a nation. I don't know who I despise more ... him or Baby Bush. And I am a freakin' republican!
Wow I actually agree with you. Hell must be freezig over.

A National ID card sounds like a good idea, on its face. Then, I think of all the Federal agencies and how they could use it, and the idea doesn't sound too hot, anymore. Can you spell IRS?

If profiling were done on a fair basis, (i.e., profile the white boy), I would have no problem with it. As it stands, only blacks, hispanics and Arabs get the profile, now. Some of the procedures that have been adopted go a long way in furthering the argument that the bad guys are winning.
