Riu Playacar
Want to book the Riu Playacar. It sounds like it is well liked resort. However, I was wondering about the bathroom. Do they have showers or not? I have heard they have bidets instead. Is this true? Also, I have heard mixed comments about the restaurants requiring reservations. What type of restaurants are they? How many reservation requiring ones are there? Thanks! 8)

I stayed at the Riu Playacar in December. The showers are stand up, with a curtain. No bidets. There are 2 a la carte restaurants (require reservations), Steakhouse and Mediterranean (seafood). Apparently reservations need to be made by 7 am with the maitre d, you can call down. But we didn't have any trouble making reservations after breakfast. But we only took one night at the Steakhouse, which was pretty good, and the rest of the time we had dinner at the buffet, which provides you with lots of choice. However, at the buffet, the maitre d will have you sit in the same spot, I had no problem with that.
The hotel itself is great, I am planning on going back for a longer stay! The staff is wonderful. If you have any other questions, just send me a message! |

The rooms at the Riu Playacar are NICE! The regular rooms have just showers but the are nice (Euro Style) showers. I think the Junior suites might have a bidet and bathtub. As for the restaurants, The buffet is awesome and you don't need reservations. You will be assigned a table and that will always be your table at dinner. La Turqesa (steak/seafood restaurant) requires a reservation. We only went there one night and had no problem getting a table reserved. It was good, but so is the buffet.
This place is top notch. I can't wait to go back. You will not be dissappointed. Some suggestions: Take large capacity insulated mugs for your drinks. It will save you extra trips to the bar when you're at the beach. Take lots of $1 bills to tip the housekeepers and bartenders. These people work hard and don't make that much and they will treat you excellent if you dont tip but they really do appreciate it if you do. Take some plug-in air fresheners or scented candles for your room. This is a warm, humid climate and it is typical for your room to have a slight musty smell. Take your own bar of soap as the ones the hotel supplies are tiny. Men are required to wear long pants when dining at suppertime. This resort rocks and if you don't have a enjoyable trip here, you probably wont have one anywhere. Have a great time and tell all of us about your trip when you get back.
