This is a project Xcaret is planning
Interestingly the article you linked to states that according to its director, the Asociación de Hoteles de la Riviera Maya remains opposed to this project, but the director of the Asociación de Pequeños Hoteles de Playa del Carmen has recently both reversed his position on the subject and won a seat as a regional representative. Time to check with Delmy as to whether we plan to renew our membership in the latter association... Steve |

I just came back from Playa..sigh. The pier is clearly being regularly used by a Cozumel ferry.
I pity the people booked into Porto Real's expanding hotel facility. It's still mostly under construction and they appear to be moving people in as each unit is considered finished. Many occupied rooms are located beside those still in the raw construction stage. Jim |

I also just returned and was very disappointed by the very large and inappropriate Porto Real's expansion. It changes the flavor of the town for me. You have the feel of the small resort town on either side of them and then these monstrosities in the middle. It breaks up the flow of the town. I personally do not think either of those complexes or the 2nd pier belong in town. They are better suited for AI alley.

we just returned from the GPR and what we saw was the ferry docking here seemed to be tour groups being dropped off and would meet about 5 buses in front of the porto real which would wisk them all off to points unknown. then about 7pm or so they would return and reload the ferry and off they went.at least it appeared to be the only ferry to dock there all day and would stay put until the buses returned, not coming and going all day.hopefully its use will not increase and the government will follow thru w/the closure and removal of the pier as stated previously.
