Iberostar Quetzel
We will be staying at the Iberostar Quetzel Resort from 1/26-2/2. I was wondering if you have rights to the Iberostar Tucan as far as eating, drinking, entertainment, etc...Also, wondering who has stayed here and your opinions of the resort. Does anyone have any info on swimming with the dolphins? Your response will be greatly appreciated. thanks and can't wait to hit the beaches and bars

jkl56, We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal in 2000 so I'm not sure what may have changed since then. However, when we were there we had full use of the amenities at the Tucan as well. If I remember correctly, the Tucan is on the north side and the Quetzal is on the south side and the restaurants, bars, pools, etc for both are situated in the center. Back then the Tucan was primarily foreigners and most Americans were in the Quetzal. Though when we stayed there we only met one other couple from the US.
The resort is beautiful. My favorite is the jungle setting in the center and the large freeform pool. IMHO, the rooms are OK. Adequate, but nothing out of the oridinary. The meals were good, however, after a couple days we got tired of it. And the nightly entertainment was not the greatest. Most nights we ended up taking a cab into Playa. We are not the AI type so would not go back for that reason. Though if AI is your thing, I don't think you can go wrong with the Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal as it really is a beautiful resort. Have a great trip and try to venture off the resort and experience the true Playa! Denise |

We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal in November and loved it! The Tucan and Quetzal do share all of the same amenities, restaurants, etc. They each have their own buffet restaurant. Make sure to make your reservations for the a la carte restaurants when you arrive. I swam with the dolphins at dolphin discovery in Puerto Aventuras and had a wonderful time. There was only 6 people in my group which gave us all more time with the dolphins. The made a video and took pictures which you can buy at the gift shop for an extra charge. Everyone there highly recommended dolphin discovery over the other places. It is a short drive from the resort.
