Xcaret Occidental Grand Flamenco

Hi All:

I'm planning on taking the family (wife, 7 yr. old and 1 yr old) to the Xcaret Grand Flamenco.....

This will be my first trip to the Mexican Riviera (I've been to Mex City on business close to a dozen times).

First, and foremost...am I nuts to be travelling with a young toddler? Are there decent activities for a 7 year old, not that we're looking to dump him, but I think it would be nice if he got to hang out with other kids.

Secondly, is the Xcaret Flamenco good for kids, or should I consider another all-inclusive, I'd prefer Allegro properties but would like to get your feedback.

Third, what is the locale surrounding the resort like? Safe to walk around (maybe it's my Mexico City paranoia....)???

Finally, I'm looking at the end of June as the time of vacation, is this a decent time to go, does anyone have an idea of occupancy rates, weather, etc???

Thanks for the help!!!

Dave

Travelling with children

I'm afraid i'm not sure about most of your questions, but i do know a few things.

I've been travelling independently and with my parents since i was a baby, and it has always been good fun, and safe. We have travelled to Africa, USA, Europe....pretty much everywhere!

Some people say taking youngsters on holiday is not good, but i reakon from personal experience it's just fine!

I know that the company Club Med does holidays where the parents can pop the kids, (all ages) into fun, safe care for bit of the day and even night, and from the reviews of them in the UK they sound good.

The only thing i can advise with children, (which my parents did for me) is lots of water, suncream, hats, heathly snacks (kids get hungry quicker), little suprise toys to ease flight and transport bordom, and of course lots of happiness :-)

I hope this will help, but remember different people and kids like/hate different things, so sometimes something one person found great the kids of another will go "Huh!"

Good luck!

Re: Xcaret Occidental Grand Flamenco

Dave, I hope it is not to late to respond... Don't go to Xcaret Grand Flamenco!!! What a disappointement, their ads are all misleading, there is no beach and limited things to do for kids. I would suggest going to Playa Car in Playa del Carmen specifically the Gala or Allegro or Riu. They may be a little more expensive but worth it. I know for fact that many families with young toddlers were very happy with the kids club at Gala! The strip of hotels at Playa Car where the Gala and Allegro are located is very safe and not too crowded. This area is a 5 min. cab ride ($5.00) from downtown 5th Ave in Playa Del Carmen, which is where almost all the shops and restaurants are located. In terms of timing it will certainly be hot enough in June. quote="dave151515"]Hi All:
