Yoga is about practicing presence and acceptance. You have to be where you are with your body, mind and spirit each day. Listen to your body and treat it with love. Go to your edge but take care of yourself. Some days I spend half the class in childs pose because that is what I need. Other days its amazing and I go further in a pose than I ever thought possible. There is a great book called Meditations From the Mat by Rolf Gates. He compiled daily yoga meditations for 365 days and is very inspiring. All yogis have bad days. Namaste

Then- two classes ago I hit a wall. I don't know why- but during the last two classes I had to sit out a lot, my cirulation was giving me probs although I was hydrated....... it just plain frustrated me.
Now- I know this is part of the process. My teacher and I spoke about it and he said that he has the same thing going on at the moment.............

So I really wonder how class today will be- wether I'll finally break through the wall or have more of the sitting out to do.

It is a great lecture in patience with yourself in mind and body aside from a great workout (I am starting to develop a sixpack????!!!! ).

Namaste.
There are definitly ebbs and flows, depnding on where you are with your practice, state of mind, stress, rest, etc...
I have now been going faithfully 3 times a week for almost a month, and all I can say is that this for me is life changing. My posture is notcieablly better, I am working joints that I have never spent much time on and I feel the better for it. hello hip joints! I am not starting to see progress in some of the poses, especially with my flexibility! The heat really helps me with the poses and the incredible sweat makes me feel like I am flushing my system.

With Bikram, it's a set 26 poses, same ones everytime, do as much or as little as you can. There is also something called hot yoga, similar but not as hot, and a little slower moving, I'd recommend that as well. But that's the extent of my yoga experience, I know there are all differnt types, some more athletic and other more meditational.. I just know I wanted something with a warm to very hot room and wasn't so slow I'd be bored.
drewl if you live in the Boston area you should check out this studio. Baptist developed a power vinyasa yoga that is spiritual, athletic and heated to 85-90. He's written a few great books and does yoga retreats at Maya Tulum and other places. I go to one of his affiliate studios 4-5 times a week.

Blue: Thanks! Yes, very familiar with Baptist, I used to live very close to his Cambridge studio. I hear nothing but great things, unfortunately, I no longer live that close. Also, Kripala is not far.. that could be interesting as well.
